Daikin Applied is hiring a Strategic Sourcing Lead within our New Product Introduction (NPI) team. The person in this role will develop and execute NPI sourcing strategies that align with business goals and category strategies, ensuring cost efficiency, supply continuity, and quality compliance throughout the NPI concept to launch process.

The Strategic Sourcing Lead- NPI will manage supplier relationships, driving strategic NPI initiatives, and fostering collaboration with key stakeholders across the organization. The person in this position will have direct impact in a critical role involved in risk management, supplier performance optimization, and continuous improvement of NPI procurement processes.



  • Negotiates supply terms of new production parts and ensures supplier relations are solid.
  • Counters price increase demands and prepares strategies for various commodities within NPI projects.
  • Lead product development activities with key suppliers.
  • Acts as a negotiator when supply deliveries default.
  • Understand the cost structures of the Supplier base.
  • Ensures the New Product Introduction (NPI) projects are fully supported with Procurement roles.
  • Supports NPI-Engineering on prototype/sample and pre-production purchased part needs.
  • Identify/develop potential new OEM supplier relationships in collaboration with Corporate ISC/Strategic Sourcing Managers.
  • Reviews bid proposals and negotiates contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority.
  • Lead strategic sourcing project tasks and deliverables within each stage of NPI development.
  • Confers with Suppliers to obtain product or service information such as price, availability, and delivery schedule.
  • Select products for purchase by testing, observing, or examining items.
  • Estimates values according to knowledge of market price.
  • Determines methods of procurement such as direct purchase, VMI, or similar.
  • Coordinate NPI project handoff to the site Procurement team after project launch.
  • Maintains procurement records, such as purchased items or services, costs, delivery & performance.
  • Discuss defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality control personnel, users, suppliers, and others to determine the source of trouble and take corrective action.

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelors Degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, Finance or related AND 5+ years of experience in Strategic Sourcing, New Product Development, or related commodities experience
  • OR related higher education coursework completed and 10+ years of experience in Strategic Sourcing, New Product Development or related commodities experience
  • Work visa sponsorship is not available for this position


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Prior work experience with Business/data analysis, program or project management
  • Indirect experience overseeing a direct report or team workload
  • CPM, CIPM certifications or similar

The typical annual base salary for this position ranges from $80,400 - $125,000 + 10% bonus in Staunton, Virginia. The range displayed represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade in which this position falls. Individual base pay will depend on a wide range of factors including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
