Position Summary

The Division of Student Affairs is
the primary student services provider for The University of New Mexico's large
and diverse student population. We provide access, support, and encouragement
to all students in pursuit of academic excellence and help them achieve their individual
potential to become life-long learners and engaged members of a global
community. The Student Affairs Leadership Intern will provide assistance
with a variety of projects and initiatives within the Office of the Vice
President for Student Affairs (OVPSA).

This position will receive direct mentorship
in supporting the administrative, assessment and evaluation, communications and
marketing, development, and event planning functions of the OVPSA. The leadership
intern will learn about the different areas within the division and will also
have an opportunity to focus on specific projects depending on their interests
and divisional strategic priorities. The internship is designed to provide
practical experience for those interested in a career in student affairs/higher
education.

The leadership intern will interact
with a variety of staff, faculty, and administrators across the university; thus,
this position requires a great deal of professionalism, responsibility,
confidentiality, and maturity.

Primary Duties

  • Perform general administrative duties (greet and direct visitors, resolve routine administrative problems, answer inquiries concerning activities and operations of department/division. etc.)
    Assist the Public Relations Specialist, Sr. in the development of digital and print publications including flyers, newsletter content, social media, and other marketing support materials.
  • Assist the Program Planning Officer for Assessment on data collection, analysis, and assessment-related tasks and projects.
  • Support the Director of Development with donor stewardship including thank-a-thons and mailing projects.
  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of Division of Student Affairs events, including but not limited to Careers in Student Affairs Month, BeKind UNM, and the Louie Awards.
  • Work on additional special projects in line with strategic priorities of the division and in support of the Executive Leadership Team.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a degree-seeking program at UNM, enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM in the fall 2024 semester (audit hours do not count), and, if Work Study eligible, must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.
  • Applicants must have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in customer service roles, approachable, and friendly
  • Experience dealing with sensitive and personal information
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and Microsoft Teams
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Excellent team member
  • Skilled in Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign, etc.)
  • Prior experience working on campus or involvement in student organizations
  • Strong interest in pursuing a career in student affairs/higher education
