Schedule: 7:00 pm - 7: 00 am, three 12-hour shifts, no call hours, variable days

Your role with us:

As a Surgical Technologist in Labor & Delivery at Salem Health, you will be a critical member of a fast-paced surgical team supporting some of the most meaningful moments in patient care. You'll help ensure that every procedure-from scheduled cesarean deliveries to urgent interventions-happens in a safe, sterile, and supportive environment. With a focus on technical excellence, patient safety, and team collaboration, you'll join a unit known for its strong camaraderie, supportive leadership, and commitment to continuous improvement.

Our L&D Surgical Technologists provide 24/7 coverage with two technologists on every shift to support our dual operating rooms and ensure smooth, uninterrupted care during approximately 250 deliveries each month.

What you'll do:

  • Prepare operating rooms and sterile fields by organizing surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment, ensuring readiness and adherence to aseptic technique.
  • Verify proper functioning of equipment, manage surgical specimens, and assist in surgical site dressings.
  • Anticipate surgeon and patient needs during cesarean sections, tubal ligations, and D&C procedures, delivering correct instruments and supplies efficiently.
  • Participate in safety practices including time-outs, medication labeling, hand hygiene, and post-procedure debriefs.
  • Prepare and monitor medications on the sterile field with attention to detail and safety protocols.
  • Assist with patient positioning and utilize proper body mechanics to protect both patients and team members.
  • Support vaginal deliveries and help with specimen storage and transport.
  • Assist in room turnover and restocking; order unit supplies including floor stock-approved medications.
  • Use downtime proactively to help with preference card updates, supply management, and stocking.
  • Support non-scrub patient care duties and help orient new staff members.
  • Participate in Lean-driven process improvements and promote a culture of safety and teamwork.

Required qualifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

And will follow any one of three paths:

Path I: Completion of an Accredited Educational Program

  • Completion of a surgical technology educational program accredited by a national accreditation organization that is approved by the Oregon Health Authority; and
  • Holds a current surgical technologist certification issued through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA); or, obtains surgical technologist certification through the NBSTSA within twelve months of program completion.

Path II: Completion of a US Military Surgical Technologist Training Program

  • Provides documentation showing completion of a training program for surgical technologists in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps or Coast Guard of the United States or in the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps; and
  • Demonstrates that sixteen hours of approved continuing education was completed every two years

Path III: Grandfathered

  • Provides documentation demonstrating practice of surgical technology during at least two of the years between January 1, 2014 and January 1, 2017; and
  • If experienced in the state of Oregon, must also demonstrate that sixteen hours of continuing education was completed every two years since 1/1/2017
