The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Position Summary The Nurse Practitioner will deliver high-quality primary care, including inclusive sexual and reproductive healthcare, urgent care and occupational and travel medicine, to graduate-level Health Sciences Students at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. This role combines the autonomy of independent practice with a collaborative team environment, offering an opportunity to contribute to a fast-paced, evidence-based healthcare setting. The Nurse Practitioner will provide and document office-based care, working in partnership with students to ensure a patient-centered approach to healthcare. This position operates within a flexible Monday through Friday schedule and includes shifts that are 8am-4pm and 11am-7pm to accommodate student needs. Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive primary care to graduate-level health sciences students, including inclusive sexual and reproductive healthcare, urgent care and occupational and travel medicine.
- Conduct thorough health assessments, including focused health histories and physical exams tailored to the patient's presenting concerns.
- Order, interpret, and follow up on diagnostic tests as part of clinical decision making.
- Diagnose, manage, and treat both acute and chronic health conditions in alignment with established clinical guidelines.
- Develop personalized treatment plans that may include medications, lifestyle modifications, and other evidence-based interventions.
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary student health staff to coordinate ongoing care and make appropriate referrals.
- Document patient care activities in the electronic health record, ensuring thorough and accurate medical records.
- Contribute to the development, review, and implementation of nurse practitioner practice guidelines, as well as clinical policies and procedures, to uphold the highest standards of care.
- Prescribe medications, medical devices, and other treatment appropriate to the medical condition and in accordance with state regulations and best practices.
- Model patient-centered care for students by demonstrating compassionate, culturally sensitive, and ethical clinical practices.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and service delivery.
- Engage in the development and revision of Student Health policies, particularly those affecting clinical care.
- Provide after-hours emergency on-call support as part of a collaborative, responsive healthcare team.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Nursing.
- Current unrestricted license in New York as a Nurse Practitioner.
- Certification as Adult Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner.
- Current DEA License.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience providing direct clinical services in an ambulatory care setting.
- Prior college health experience preferred but not required.
