The Student Health Center (
SHC) provides high quality, affordable care and resources to students. It offers a range of confidential health services to support medical and mental health needs, as well as promotion and prevention services to guide students in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The
SHC seeks a Patient Services Associate who will welcome and assist students with appointments, tests, urgent care and other services offered at the Health Centers locations at Mount Vernon Campus and Foggy Bottom Campus. The hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm; Some evenings and weekends may be required.
Job Duties:
- Provides exceptional customer service. Welcome and assist patients, ensuring a positive and supportive experience, scheduling or rescheduling appointments, and maintaining medical and immunization records and accounts.
- Answers all phone calls in a professional and courteous manner. Checks and answers the clinic's immunization and main administration email in a timely and courteous manner.
- Provides information to patients who seek appointments with specialists. Prints summary of visit, immunization records and medical record requests for students.
- Performs all duties within HIPAA regulations.
- Optimize patient satisfaction, provider time, and treatment room utilization by scheduling appointments in person or by telephone.
- Protects patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of medical, personal, and financial information.
- Maintains patient accounts by obtaining, recording, and updating personal and financial information.
- Keeps business office inventory and equipment by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting orders for supplies, verifying receipt of supplies, and scheduling equipment service and repairs. Assists with the collection and distribution of mail in the Clinic.
- Helps patients in distress by responding to emergencies.
- Leads the review of student immunization record submissions to ensure accuracy and compliance with District of Columbia Immunization Law requirements.
- Perform administrative duties at both the Foggy Bottom and Mount Vernon Campus Locations.
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. |
Minimum Qualifications: |
Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/
GED, or, a Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. |

Preferred Qualifications: |
- Excellent communication skills to converse clearly over the telephone and in person.
- Organization and time management to manage a variety of tasks effectively.
- Attention to detail to schedule patients correctly and communicate scheduling difficulties with providers.
- Interpersonal skills to interact positively with patients who may be upset or stressed.
- Prior administrative experience is preferred.
- Experience utilizing computerized schedule and record-keeping software is desired.
