Research Associate

The Department of Agribusiness, Applied Economics and Agriscience Education at North Carolina A&T State University is seeking candidates for a 12-month, staff position of Research Associate with a track record of work on social sciences issues relating to agriculture (in general), food, and rural/urban communities.

Prospective candidates are also expected to design experiments and surveys (using Survey Monkey and Qualtrics platforms) to collect and analyze data that will advance understanding of social science issues and demonstrate impact, especially issues relevant to underserved and disadvantaged communities; to design and adapt analytical methodologies both quantitative and qualitative for application in analyzing social data and visualization of data; to conduct field work that involves in depth ethnographic interviews and experiments; prepare literature reviews, reports, abstracts, presentations, papers and supervise enumerators, and to and to provide analytic expertise to expand the Department's research portfolio.

N.C. A&T is a public, land-grant, doctoral research institution and has been the largest historically Black university in the country for the past decade. The Department of Agribusiness, Applied Economics, and Agriscience Education's faculty consists of core faculty, affiliated graduate faculty members, research associates, and part-time instructors. The Department offers two undergraduate degrees, a B.S. in Agricultural and Environmental Systems (Agribusiness and Food Industry Management) and a B.S. in Agricultural Education with two concentration areas in Agricultural Professional Service and Secondary Education. The BS in Agricultural Education has been nationally recognized as 2nd in the nation for affordable online programs by AffordableSchools.net and is one of the earliest integrators of educational technologies. The Department also offers a Master of Science degree in Agricultural and Environmental Systems (Agribusiness and Food Industry Management) and a Master of Science degree in Agricultural Education with two concentration areas in Professional Licensure and Professional Service. The Department also houses an International Trade Center and an Applied Survey Laboratory, which facilitate research and outreach activities for small businesses and small farm operations throughout the state of North Carolina and qualitative and quantitative research analyses, respectively. Ultimately, we seek applicants to contribute to the fulfillment of the Department's vision, which is to uphold the land-grant mission by preparing North Carolinians and the greater global community with an education in agribusiness, applied economics, and agricultural education, a capacity to conduct and/or interpret interdisciplinary research involving agricultural and social sciences, and an ability to engage, build, and strengthen farming/rural and urban communities.

Minimum requirements include a Master's in relevant Agricultural Economics, Applied Economics, Rural Sociology or Related Social Science; Curriculum vitae should reflect evidence of experience in survey design and experimental methods in social sciences, advanced qualitative and quantitative analysis; skills in developing and delivering instructional material; and Evidence of skills in the application of relevant software.

Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics, Applied Economics, Rural Sociology or Related Social Science and at least four years of experience working with and applying advanced computational, simulation, and experimental techniques in a social science context.
