Through its Cooperative Extension offices in all 21 New Jersey counties, dedicated 4-H agents, Extension specialists, Family & Community Health Sciences educators, and Agriculture and Natural Resources agents work to serve New Jersey residents in every area of the state. In addition, off-campus field stations and farms focus on research ranging from support for fisheries, agriculture and allied businesses to support for youth and teens, while several centers and institutes on the George H. Cook Campus at Rutgers-New Brunswick engage in world-class research to provide solutions for a range of issues faced by New Jersey residents.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Facilities Coordinator for the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. The Facilities Coordinator will report to the Senior Manager of Production Planning and Facilities. This position will be full-time and based at the Rutgers Food Innovation Center ( FIC) in Bridgeton (Cumberland County), NJ. This individual is the Facility Coordinator of the FIC facility and is responsible for both building and equipment maintenance for the entire 23,000 s.f. facility and the associated property, equipment setup daily, equipment oversight on an ongoing basis, operational research and development testing and troubleshooting for client activities, preventive maintenance, and other duties as assigned.

Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Plans and coordinates such general facility maintenance duties as the examination, dismantling, repair, reassembly and maintenance of various types of food production equipment, including refrigeration units, heating systems, pumps, equipment, boilers, filters, etc.
  • Inspects, repairs, and/or replaces used and defective parts; adjusts, lubricates and cleans functional parts.
  • Uses a variety of hand and power tools, welding and burning equipment, electrical testing equipment and measuring devices.
  • Performs general painting, carpentry, locksmithing, masonry and electrical duties.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and repair duties; cleans shop work areas.
  • Detects faulty operation of equipment.
  • Reports any questionable conditions to supervisor; and will perform related duties as required.
  • Conducts inventory of equipment, materials, and supplies, and advise management when to reorder stock.
  • Estimates work time, writing up lists of appropriate and needed materials, and providing such materials for him/herself or the group including warehouse inventory through the FMX system or other inventory software.
  • Expected to be very proactive, and to setup and run equipment for every client production run to ensure that client production begins as effortlessly as possible, on a timely basis, and with minimal disruptions, and is expected to interact on a regular basis with FIC clients and serve as a positive and proactive representative of the FIC team.
  • Works independently and as part of the operations and R&D team, and is the primary contact for trouble calls, issues work orders and/or conducts the actual maintenance needs as necessary and coordinates the work of journey tradespersons and maintains preventive maintenance records.
  • Responsible for the repair and maintenance of university facilities, grounds, supplies and materials, and prioritizing and estimating of work.
  • Notifies supervisor of any emergent problems discovered through performance of assigned duties, and inputs data as required to fulfill job responsibilities using current technology and generate and complete automated work orders or service orders.
  • Collaborates with IP&O on building asset condition and concerns. This includes reporting any mechanical concerns, disruptions or required repairs to building mechanical systems to the IP&O Operations staff.


This position is located in Bridgeton, NJ, Cumberland County - 2 hours off campus.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent plus a minimum of two years relevant experience in performing mechanical/electrical maintenance and repair work on industrial-type motors and pumps such as water distribution, high temp and vacuum pumps and food manufacturing equipment.
Certifications/Licenses

  • The applicant must have one or more current certifications in the HVAC/refrigeration field or be prepared to obtain this certification.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must be competent in performing complex and varied mechanical/electrical maintenance and repair work on industrial-type equipment, such as kettles, ovens, conveyors, bottling lines, motors and pumps (electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, etc.).
  • Requires good communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the food processing industry is preferred.
  • Experience in new product and process development is preferred.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining preventative maintenance programs as well as standard operating procedures (SOP'S).
  • Experience in interacting with equipment vendors preferred.

Equipment Utilized
  • It is preferred that the applicant be able to operate a food manufacturing bottling line, low-pressure white-seal boiler and forklift and have appropriate certifications and licenses for this and/or be willing to obtain these.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • The ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and read and comprehend technical manuals and blueprints.
  • Must be able to perform duties in hot/moist environment.
