The School of Arts and Sciences ( SAS) is the largest academic unit at Rutgers University and the center of the undergraduate experience on the Rutgers-New Brunswick campus and is comprised of 41 academic departments spanning the liberal arts. Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Budget Analyst III for the School of Arts and Sciences ( SAS) - Dean's Office. Under direction of the Assoc. Director of Budget, the Budget Analyst III will work in the School of Arts & Sciences ( SAS) Deans Office as budget generalist and will be involved in all aspects of the office's operation.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Plans, develops and implements procedures for the effective management of the university's general operating budget as well as performance reporting against same.
  • Participates in the development of the annual Rutgers RCM budget for SAS, the annual budget allocation of resources to all SAS units, analysis of RCM cost metrics and the impact of Central University unit RCM budgets on SAS and SAS departments, periodic forecasting and analytical projects, the collection and analysis of budget and expense related data from internal University sources as well as external sources, as well as other tasks as required for the SAS Deans Office.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • A bachelor's degree, preferably in business administration, finance, accounting or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of general accounting principles and practices.
  • Five (5) years prior experience working in a financial, accounting or data analysis position.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated analytical skills that allow for interpretation of budgetary, financial, and related management information
  • Excellent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Excellent computer skills and experience using spreadsheet, charting, and other software tools, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience in a University environment preferred. Knowledge of Rutgers University budget and accounting procedures.
  • Knowledge of Tableau, ACL or other data analytics/data visualization tools.
  • Experience with Oracle Cloud General Ledger, PeopleSoft HCM, Hyperion Financial Management systems.
  • Strong writing skills sufficient to draft professional reports and correspondence that is clear and concise.
  • The ability to exercise good judgment and discretion, especially with regards to sensitive or confidential financial or organizational matters.
  • The ability to respond flexibly and positively in all circumstances, and to work calmly under pressure.
  • The ability and desire to work cooperatively with people from all levels in the University.

Equipment Utilized
  • University-wide applications including Cornerstone, Peoplesoft and Hyperion resource planning system will be tools used by the incumbent in addition to extensive use of Excel, Access, Tableau and other data management software.

  • The position may require additional work hours in the evening and on weekends during peak financial times throughout the fiscal year.
