The Corporate Information Services Department is seeking a dynamic and talented Sr. Application Architect - Payroll.

The Sr. Application Architect is responsible for leading the design, development, and optimization of our enterprise payroll system. This role requires a deep technical expertise in payroll applications, cloud-based architecture, and enterprise resource planning integrations. This position works closely with cross-functional teams, including HR, Finance, and IT, to ensure payroll systems are scalable, compliant, and aligned with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Develops and maintains the overall architecture for payroll applications, ensuring scalability, security, and compliance with regulatory standards. Hands-on participation in all development activities.
  • Designs seamless integrations between payroll systems, ERP platforms (e.g., Workday, SAP, Oracle), time-tracking systems, and third-party vendors.
  • Evaluates and recommends emerging technologies to improve payroll system efficiency, automation, and reporting capabilities.
  • Ensures payroll applications adhere to legal and regulatory requirements, including tax regulations, GDPR, SOC compliance, and data privacy laws.
  • Identifies and resolves system performance bottlenecks, ensuring payroll processing is efficient and error-free.
  • Partners with HR, Finance, and IT teams to understand business needs and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Leads cloud-based payroll application initiatives, including migration to SaaS platforms and leveraging DevOps best practices for continuous integration and deployment.
  • Manages relationships with payroll software vendors, ensuring SLAs and system enhancements align with business goals.
  • Guides junior developers and architects, fostering best practices in payroll application development and integration.

Qualifications

Position Requirements:

Experience and Knowledge:

  • 8+ years' experience in payroll processing and architectural design.
  • Deep understanding of payroll processing systems such as Workday, ADP, SAP, Oracle, UKG, or similar platforms.
  • Proven experience designing scalable, high-performance payroll solutions within large enterprises.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll-related regulations, tax laws, and data privacy requirements.
  • Experience with API development, middleware solutions, and integrations between HR, payroll, and financial systems.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud computing (AWS, Azure, GCP), CI/CD pipelines, and containerization technologies.
  • Expertise in system performance tuning, database optimization, and security best practices.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of payroll application frameworks and ERP systems.
  • Expertise in database management (SQL, NoSQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
  • Hands-on experience with cloud computing and microservices architecture.
  • Knowledge of AI/ML-driven payroll analytics is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
  • Strategic mindset with a focus on long-term technology solutions.

Travel Requirements: 5 - 25% domestic US travel (depending on projects).
