Overview

Identifies and organizes complete data collection on reportable cases from a variety of internal and external (paper and electronic) data sources, and enters them in a suspense record in the tumor registry software system. Collects and summarizes followup oncology information on reportable cases (vital and disease status, recurrences, subsequent treatment and subsequent malignancies) in accordance with the Connecticut Tumor Registry and the data standards of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer and YNHH Cancer Committee and other tasks as outlined by the Manager.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Responsible for cases-finding procedures, as needed, including identifying all cases with behavior code of '2'or '3' in the International Classification of Disease of Oncology (ICD-O) according to Connecticut Tumor Registry and Commission on Cancer (CoC) standards.
    • 1.1 Collects and/or prints documents on clinical oncology information from a variety of internalsources (e.g. Dermatopathology, Surgical Pathology, Medical Oncology, GYN Oncology) and organizes documentation.
  • 2. Summarizes and abstracts follow-up information from medical documents, follow-up letters and other sources (e.g. Brady list) regarding current status, recurrence and recurrence treatment and enters information directly into tumor registry software using codes according to tumor registry data standards.
    • 2.1 Assists the manager in generating physician follow- up letters

Qualifications

EDUCATION

High School or equivalent experience supplemented by courses in medical terminology and anatomy and physiology. Associates degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE

Two(2) years of healthcare related experience, preferably in Oncology. Knowledge of International Classification of Diseases for Oncology (ICD-O), American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) staging manual, Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) standards and the Facility Oncology Registry Data Standards (FORDS) for the Commission on Cancer is preferred.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Excellent organization skills and investigative analytic skills with detail orientation is required.
