Genentech
United States, California, South San Francisco
May 10, 2025
The Position

We advance science so that we all have more time with the people we love.

We advance science so that we all have more time with the people we love. The Translational Medicine department at Genentech provides translational research to inform clinical development in disease areas of Ophthalmology, Metabolism, Neuroscience, Immunology, and Infectious Diseases (TM-OMNI). Our research encompasses cutting-edge support of clinical biomarker discovery and development, development of personalized healthcare strategies, and clinical translational research to study the molecular and cellular pathways driving disease to generate novel target and biomarker approaches.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a highly motivated Principal Scientist to join TM-OMNI to drive biomarker and drug development and/or translational research efforts in neurodegenerative diseases. Our department is responsible for identifying novel approaches to treat these neurodegenerative diseases using preclinical and clinical translational research; designing, implementing, and interpreting biomarker results; and establishing new ways to speed clinical development through biomarkers. Our group uses relevant human clinical samples and deep molecular and cellular phenotyping approaches to evaluate disease heterogeneity and disease modification by therapeutics to guide assessment of disease pathogenesis and drug discovery and development. Lab Group Heads within the department provide scientific leadership of novel projects to target unmet need in disease, and discover or develop biomarkers to advance clinical trial development.

As an integral member of this dynamic team, you will be:

  • A core member of drug development projects focused on Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, or other neurodegenerative diseases, from early discovery through early-stage clinical development.

  • Developing and executing strategic plans for biomarker discovery and development to support drug development programs.

  • Managing cross-functional project teams, ensuring alignment with overall program goals, timelines, and budgets.

  • Collaborating closely with internal and external partners, including Research, Clinical, Computational Science, and academic institutions.

  • Providing strategic input and leadership in project meetings, internal review committees, and external collaborations.

  • Communicating project progress, challenges, and opportunities to senior leadership and stakeholders through presentations and reports.

  • Writing and reviewing biomarker sections of research protocols, reports, regulatory filings, and scientific publications.

Who You Are

We are looking for an individual who would be passionate about using their understanding of neurological disease biology to make impactful contributions to drug development. Success in these responsibilities will require:

  • PhD in Neuroscience or a related field with at least 3 years (Principal Scientist); at least 5 years ( Sr. Principal Scientist) of post-doctoral or translational research experience in either in an academic and/or industry setting.

  • Demonstrated experience in drug development, project management, and strategic planning.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage cross-functional teams and drive projects to successful completion.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex scientific and strategic information to diverse audiences.

  • Proven track record of successful collaboration with internal and external partners, including academic institutions and industry stakeholders.

  • Prior experience in Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, or ALS, including research projects, and a demonstrated ability to function as part of a cross-functional team such as research project teams (preferred).

Relocation benefits are available for this posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $141,500-$262,900 (Principal Scientist) and $176,600-$328,000 (Senior Principal Scientist) .
