LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING INSTRUCTOR DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE & INSURANCE TRAINING NASHVILLE, TN Salary: $4,863.00 - $7,227.00 Closing Date: 06/02/2025

Who we are and what we do:

Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy (TLETA) TLETA strives to provide service to government agencies through police science and administrative education programs for officers at all levels of responsibility; provide timely and relevant information to officers who attend these training programs, which increases their capabilities to better serve their departments and citizens of the State of Tennessee; and be the center of law enforcement training for all law enforcement officers.

By providing knowledge and experience to an ever-changing and evolving pool of new aspiring law enforcement officers.

Job Overview:

Research and develop law enforcement training lesson plans and teach those lesson plans to cadets in basic training and to certified/experienced law enforcement officers. Willingness and ability to provide training at TLETA and throughout Tennessee when requested by TLETA leadership. Positive attitude toward the profession, management, peers, and trainees. Willingness and flexibility to instruct topics identified as needed by management. Be an example for future law enforcement officers through discipline and integrity. Be able to adapt to learning and teaching new topics at TLETA to meet the needs of our customers. Instructors will be required to work varying hours, early mornings, evenings, and holidays dictated by the needs of TLETA and the training schedule. Instructors hired to teach a specific discipline may be assigned to any other discipline or job task at TLETA as needed by academy leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

The ideal candidate will possess the following competencies: integrity and trust, public presentation skills, customer focus, organization, time management, self-starter, action oriented, technical learning, functional/technical competency, clear communication with law enforcement officers of varying experience levels, perseverance, intermediate knowledge of public safety, intermediate knowledge of law and government, knowledge of educational and training procedures and principals, Intermediate knowledge of Tennessee Code Annotated, Knowledge of court procedures, knowledge of basic computer operations, public speaking skills, intermediate instructing skills, judgment and decision making skills, active learning skills, active listening skills, social perceptiveness, writing skills, ability to speak clearly.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college with a bachelor's degree or the equivalent in years of service/experience as an active certified law enforcement officer. Three years of full time responsible law enforcement experience.
