Job Summary:

The mission of the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery (WID) is to discover and inspire through interdisciplinary research conducted in a dynamic, collaborative community. WID advances frontiers of knowledge, accelerates development of solutions, and engages the State of Wisconsin through interdisciplinary research. The unconventional partnerships that we cultivate at WID bring new ways of thinking to research problems and public engagement.

Delivers and assists with planning and executing outreach program activities for Wisconsin Institute for Discovery, with emphasis on the Wisconsin Science Festival (https://www.wisconsinsciencefest.org/), community connected, and other donor related programs and events.


Responsibilities:
Delivers and assists with planning outreach program activities, strengthens partnerships, ensures adherence to policy, and assists with program administration to promote stable and productive relationships between the university and local community. Strives to expand and ensure access to programs, facilities, and educational services to diverse audiences. May assist with tracking and managing the outreach program budget.

  • 10% Identifies, promotes, and maintains external partnerships to support the outreach program
  • 10% Schedules and secures resources and communicates logistics in support of an outreach program
  • 10% Delivers outreach program content and materials to community members
  • 5% Researches, develops, and facilitates outreach program content and materials
  • 15% Develops and evaluates curriculum and programs and provides recommendations for improvement
  • 5% May assist with the monitoring of outreach program budget spending
  • 25% Leads the implementation of programs, policies, and procedures through oversight of day-to-day activities for program staff and student and community volunteers
  • 5% Communicate plans, activities and achievements to Program Managers, partners and relevant stakeholders
  • 5% Organizes the development and operational logistics of select WID programs primarily including the annual Wisconsin Science Festival and other community or donor facing events
  • 5% Assist with coordination of website management, registration needs, effective design/promotional material creation, vendor sourcing, assisting with communications planning, and leading project teams
  • 5% Coordinates and assists day-of event/program management which may include working some evenings/weekends, events setups/tear downs, crowd management, facilitating activities/workshops, etc

Education:

Required
Bachelor's Degree in a science related field.

Preferred
Master's Degree in a science related field or equivalent experience.


Qualifications:

Required:
-At least 2 years of successful professional experience in STEM-related community engagement.
-Ability to learn management guidelines of WID Illuminating Discovery Hub programs.
-Demonstrated experience with building collaborative partnerships.
-Superior oral and written communication skills and ability to interact professionally with faculty, staff, members of the campus community, visitors, and external partners and stakeholders throughout the state of Wisconsin.
-Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
-Working familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), collaboration software (such as MS Teams, Zoom, Google Drive, Box, Monday.com) and design or web development software (WordPress, Adobe Suite).
-Ability and willingness to travel occasionally in Wisconsin.

Preferred:
-Ability to organize and manage multiple projects or responsibilities under general supervision.
-Ability to interpret and implement policies and procedures.
-Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.
-Creativity and commitment to innovation in public engagement.
-At least 4 years of successful professional experience in STEM-related community engagement and/or museum program coordination.

Full Time: 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $48,107 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The typical starting salary for this position is $48,107 to $68,793 depending on qualifications and experience. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays and paid time off, competitive insurances and saving accounts; and retirement benefits.
