The Division of Sidewalk & Inspection Management's Citywide Concrete Unit supports the agency's goal to enhance, rehabilitate, and maintain the City's infrastructure by acting as the agency's primary construction unit. We employ dedicated engineers, managers, support staff, laborers and adopt cost-savings and efficiency, while maintaining the highest standards of excellence and service to safety and quality. Under direction of the Supervisor Bricklayer, the selected candidate will work as part of a crew performing the following tasks: laying brick and masonry on given structures; does fireproofing, block arching, terra cotta cutting and setting constructs brick masonry for sewers and manholes; lays cobblestone; sets granite curb; lays pavers; reads and follows plans and specifications; keeps jobs and other records; may supervise assigned personnel. Additionally, the candidate may be assigned additional duties in line with their title. BRICKLAYER - 92205 Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience Requirements: By the last day of the Application Period you must have: 1. Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a Bricklayer; or 2. At least three years of experience as described in "1" above and sufficient bricklayer apprentice experience or training in the bricklaying field acquired in an approved trade, technical or vocational high school to make up the equivalent of the remaining required experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of the above experience or training. Preferred Skills *In order to be considered for this position candidate must either be serving permanently in the title, or must be reachable on the civil service list, exam # 0155, or have filed and be reachable on either Exam # 4518 or 4020* Preference will be given to candidate who possess a driver's license valid in the state of New York, This license must be maintained throughout duration of employment in this position. 55a Program This position is also open to qualified persons with a disability who are eligible for the 55-a Program. Residency Requirement New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
