The Education Specialist is available to the outpatient clinic teams to evaluate and support the families in meeting the needs of patients who have unique educational needs due to their chronic illness or disability.

The Education Specialist interfaces with patients, families and healthcare providers to refer patients to the program, program team members, as well as other team members within the hospital.

The Education Specialist works with an interdisciplinary team to provide educational assessments and coordination with home schools and assists families in meeting the educational needs of the child. Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:
Professional license with endorsement in Special Education, K-12 from the State Board of Education
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment: N/A
Experience REQUIRED:
Previous experience with special education regulations, IEPs and transition plans
Experience PREFERRED:
Experience with assessment and evaluation of students with chronic illness and disabilities.
Education/training REQUIRED:
Bachelor's Degree in Education from an accredited program
Education/training PREFERRED:
Master's Degree in Education from an accredited program
Independent action(s) required:
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clinic staff, school divisions, to include private school programs, and community representatives.
Regular, predictable attendance on site, as well as be able to take calls while away from the facility.
