Machinist

Job Purpose:

To clean and repair plastic injection molds, fixtures and machines to ensure they are in proper working order and cable of supporting production. Work includes assignment planning, layout, set up, operating and making tool adjustments for various types of manual, numerically controlled and computerized machine shop equipment. Works from blueprints, process sheets and sketches to perform production tasks, which may include the cutting and shaping of metal to precision dimensions. Will communicate directly with toolmakers and engineers to understand the purpose of a part assembly and the scope of work required. Checks and inspects machining operations against specified tolerances. May identify and repair minor machine malfunctions.

Nature of Duties:

• 
  

  Perform light repairs and changes in plastic injection molding tools and fixtures.

  
  
• 
  

  Work from 2D drawings, 3D models, and sketches.

  
  
• 
  

  Set up and operate machine tools, and equipment using various hand tools and precision measuring instruments common to the trade (ie. Micrometer, caliper, dial indicator, etc).

  
  
• 
  

  Make ejector and core pins per print, clean and polish mold cavities, perform preventative maintenance on current production tooling

  
  
• 
  

  Remove stuck parts, remove drags and make minor repairs of tools while on the bench or in the molding machine.

  
  
• 
  

  Maintain accurate counts of material and time involved and record your time on proper forms for tracking purposes and historical data.

  
  
• 
  

  Occasional Tig welding and use of Oxy Acetylene equipment, repair and replace parts in hydraulic cylinders.

  Make replacement machine parts per 2D print or sketch

  
  
• 
  

  Support and assist toolmakers within the department as well as automation and maintenance departments.

  
  

Education and Experience:

Prefer 2 year degree in Machine Tool and aminimum of 2 years of prior experience in the trade.
