The Department of Psychology within the College of Science and Engineering (
CSE) at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (
UNCW), seeks an outstanding non-tenure track, Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychology (Practice track Assistant Professor) beginning August 2025. This is a 3-year term position that is renewable every 3 years.
This position will serve as the Director of our doctoral training clinic for our
APA accredited General Clinical Psychology PhD Program.

In addition to teaching clinically related and supervision courses for clinical doctoral students, the role includes administrative duties pertaining to operating the doctoral training clinic (
GPAC) which is housed within the Psychology Department building. A 20-hour per week clinical graduate student assistant is assigned to assist the Director with
GPAC-related tasks.
Additional optional summer teaching in the form of supervision courses is available for supplementary pay. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Applicants must:
- Hold a doctoral degree in psychology with a specialization in clinical psychology from a training program that is accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) prior to employment on August 1, 2025.
**Applicants who are ABD for the terminal degree may be considered. Doctoral degree must be conferred by August 1, 2025 to be eligible for employment in this position.- An internship that is APA accredited
- Experience in clinical psychology supervision

Strong preference will be given to candidates:
- Demonstrate a commitment to high quality training in cognitive-behavior therapy and related evidence-based approaches
- Have experience with psychological assessment and therapy services in a training clinic
- Are prepared to teach graduate courses pertaining to evidence-based therapy approaches

Required Certifications or Licensure |
- Applicants must be licensed or license eligible in North Carolina, preferably licensed within one year of employment.
- Postdoctoral applicants including provisionally licensed individuals, who are accruing hours toward licensure, will be considered. The successful candidate is eligible to receive the Psychology Board-required supervision from a licensed clinical psychology faculty member.

The General Psychotherapy & Assessment Clinic (
GPAC),

, is a 6-room (including the Director's office), state-of-the-art facility located in the Psychology/Teaching Lab building. In addition to serving as an opportunity for intensive training and supervision for doctoral students, the evidence-based nature of the services and discounted fee schedule make the
GPAC an important healthcare and assessment resource for the surrounding community. The
GPAC also functions as a space for conducting research that is clinical in nature. Starting in their second year, all students carry a small caseload, and fourth-year students serve as leaders and peer supervisors in vertical practicum teams.

College/School Information |
The College of Science and Engineering offers a variety of programs leading to Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees, as well as Doctor of Philosophy degrees in applied coastal and ocean sciences; pharmaceutical chemistry; integrative, comparative, and marine biology; and psychology degrees. The college also offers combined bachelor's/master's degree programs in information technology/computer science and information systems, computer science/computer science and information systems, and B.S. in mathematics/M.S. in mathematics. To implement its academic programs, the college provides instruction and research opportunities in the natural and behavioral sciences, information technology, data science, computer science, mathematics, pre-engineering, and engineering. The eight academic departments in the college provide courses of study in each of these areas, in addition to interdepartmental programs in information technology, cybersecurity, and digital arts. A 2+2 in engineering; and 3+2 programs in computer science and electrical or computer engineering; and physics and electrical engineering, are also offered in the college. Post-baccalaureate certificate programs in environmental studies, applied statistics, and geographic information science are also available.
