Overview

Orrick currently has an excellent opportunity for a Public Policy Analyst - Temporary. This is a hybrid position in our Washington DC office.

We welcome college students graduating in May 2025 who are looking to begin their careers in a top-tier global law firm.

The Opportunity: Under the direction of the Public Policy Senior Analyst, the Public Policy Analyst - Temporary monitors federal and state legislative and regulatory developments impacting the financial services industry including banks, fintechs, lenders, payment systems, digital commerce, securities, and data security and privacy.

How will I spend my time? You will spend most of your time on these responsibilities:


Responsibilities

  • Monitoring, researching, analyzing and summarizing federal and state legislative, regulatory, enforcement, political and judicial developments impacting financial services institutions, primarily for the InfoBytes blog and weekly newsletter.
  • Editing and maintaining the InfoBytes blog.
  • Monitoring, researching and tracking agency-specific enforcement activities.
  • Monitoring and tracking state legislation and regulations, as well as providing regular updates to attorneys.
  • Assisting with the preparation, editing and delivery of client alerts.
  • Monitoring Federal Register and Public Inspection publications and agency announcements for regulatory and enforcement developments.
  • Responding to ad-hoc research requests from multiple attorneys often with tight deadlines.
  • Covering and summarizing government agency events, as well as House and Senate hearings.
  • Organizing internal communications.
  • Coordinating attorney review for the blog and weekly newsletters.
  • Assisting with other relevant tasks and projects on an as-needed basis.
  • Flexibility to adjust hours to meet attorney requests and weekly deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Excellent attention to detail, including a high proficiency in proofreading.
  • Must be comfortable reporting to numerous stakeholders and juggling multiple, complex assignments.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to provide consistent, high quality, client-ready written output, with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and working with PDFs required.
  • Working knowledge of legal resources (WestLaw, LexisNexis, AllRegs, etc.).
  • A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience
  • At least 3 years of work or educational experience with research- and writing-based responsibilities
  • Familiarity with the consumer financial services sector and prior experience in the legal industry preferred

Compensation and Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is between $18.00 to $28.00 per hour
