This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As part of a hardworking team of diverse, multi-disciplinary engineers, you will be part of the development of radar systems for Blue Origin's lunar spacecraft. You will be part of a team responsible for development and optimization of RF subsystems from early concepts and product specifications to integration with flight vehicles. In this role, you will leverage your understanding of RF design and manufacturing principles to enhance our lander navigation system performance by leveraging material properties, geometric constraints, and theoretical system efficiency. Your contributions will enable flight of state-of-the-art aerospace vehicles and missions.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Own and support selection of appropriate RF components (amplifiers, filters, switches, etc.) and design RF subsystem prototype units and PCBAs that meet the performance metrics and close on navigation requirements
  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians across multiple product disciplines to guide the design, development, and delivery of qualified radar components and RF subsystems on schedule and budget
  • Work with your peers in the engineering and navigations teams to derive radar performance metrics, e.g., gain, noise figure, bandwidth, and timing
  • Routinely collaborate with supply chain and other teams within the company to ensure smooth execution of the development effortsfrom part procurement to board assembly and testing
  • Relentlessly look for opportunities to increase performance, enable new capabilities, reduce cost, and reduce cycle time/production time

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. in electrical, physics or related areas of study
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in RF system design, modeling, and analysis
  • Extensive knowledge of the fundamentals of RF system development - design, modeling, analysis, prototyping, production, and product delivery
  • Extensive knowledge of RF components and concepts - filters, amplifiers, RF integrated circuits, PCB layout, gain, noise figure, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development, prototyping, and testing of RF systems and their components for aerospace applications
  • Experience working across multiple frequency bands such as L, X, Ku, Ka, and millimeter wave frequencies
  • Ability to challenge status-quo, break down issues to their fundamental elements, and drive efficient product solutions with emphasis on long term goals and product sustainability
  • Excellent verbal communication skills to influence a variety of direct and indirect stakeholders and demonstrated comfort in presenting technical and non-technical trade analyses to a non-technical audience.
  • Strong technical background or technical writing experience.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S. in electrical engineering or equivalent and 8+ years of experience with focus on high-frequency RF system design and optimization
  • Knowledge and experience with modeling and analysis tools like MATLAB and/or Simulink. ANSYS HFSS and/or FEKO a plus
  • Experience with RF hardware development for space applications
  • Experience with patch array antenna design

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $152,235.00-$213,127.95
