We are seeking a skilled and experienced Autonomy Test and Evaluation Engineer to join our team of software developers, test engineers, and technical leaders working to support sponsors across the Department of Defense. Our team is dedicated to delivering high-quality autonomous systems and autonomous system test capabilities that meet the evolving needs of our sponsors. As an Autonomy Test and Evaluation Engineer...

You will play a critical role in the testing and evaluation of autonomous systems, working closely with sponsors, project management, and developers to identify and mitigate potential issues. You will be responsible for designing and executing comprehensive test plans, analyzing test results, and providing recommendations for system improvements. Your expertise will help ensure that our autonomous systems meet the required standards for safety, reliability, and performance.

You will be required to work in a variety of environments, including office settings, laboratories, and non-standard job sites such as airfields, military bases, or remote locations. You must be able to adapt to changing circumstances and work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Travel is required for this position.

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

• Have a Bachelor's degree in Computer/Software Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or another related technical field.
• Have at least three years of experience in testing and evaluating complex technical systems, including autonomy and AI systems.
• Have experience with test planning, test execution, and test analysis, including the development of test plans, test cases, and test procedures.
• Have experience with Agile software development processes and version control systems such as Git.
• Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship..
• Are able to lift up to 25 pounds and work in a variety of weather conditions.
• Are willing and able to travel as required.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

• Have a Master's degree or Ph.D. in Computer/Software Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or another related technical discipline.
• Have experience with machine learning and AI algorithms, including their application in physical systems.
• Are fluent in at least one major programming language such as C/C++, Java, Python, or another relevant language and have experience with scripting languages such as Python or MATLAB.
• Have formal training or certification in testing and evaluation, such as ISTQB or CTFL.
• Have experience with autonomous system development, including system design, development, and testing.
• Have an active US security clearance.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
