POSITION SUMMARY: Perform General Plant labor in all operational areas of the plant. Required to operate, maintain, and monitor various types of production equipment. The Utility position is responsible for general housekeeping in the plant, the solid fuel handling operation and the removal of lime/limestone waste from the plant to designated dump areas.

RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS:

  • Perform General Plant labor in all operational areas of the plant.

  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of kiln and kiln-related systems.

  • Clean bins, conveyers, spills, material from under conveyers and catwalks, and other cleaning duties as assigned.

  • Continuously observe, monitor, and report any condition that could lead to equipment failure or a safety hazard.

  • Ability to operate heavy equipment including vacuum truck, haul truck, bobcat, loader, man lift, and forklift in a safe manner.

  • Assist maintenance in preventative care and minor repairs of equipment used.

  • Assist in kiln outage work, as needed.

  • Learn various positions and cross train in other areas of the plant as needed.

  • Responsible for completing equipment and work area inspections.

  • Perform all assigned work in a neat and orderly manner adhering to company and governmental safety rules and regulations including company lock out tag out procedures.

  • Familiar with equipment capacity and load capabilities of kiln related material handling equipment on stone, dust, and lime handling systems.

  • Report any potential operational or safety problems to management.

  • Responsible for continuously monitoring equipment and flow and remove blockages in kiln related equipment in a safe and effective manner as needed.

  • Assist in resolving production issues, troubleshooting, and adapt to changing conditions.

  • Responsible for accurate silo inventory measurements.

  • Ensure that different product types are distributed into the appropriate bins.

  • Ability to read, write, and interpret documents such as work orders, safety rules, standard operating procedures, maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals

  • Perform other duties as assigned, such as but not limited to, operating kilns and plant equipment from the control room, loading trucks, performing maintenance and PM tasks, working in the quarry, kiln and shipping quality testing. Safety is the most important aspect of any job task.

  • Should be able to perform the roles and responsibilities of the load out techs.

ATTRIBUTES:

  • Industrial background with good troubleshooting skills.

  • Knowledgeable of current environmental regulations and practices as they relate to the lime industry.

  • Previous experience operating heavy equipment is desired.

  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations is required.

  • Must have a telephone and be open to call-outs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Must be capable of working shift work, overtime, seven days, or holidays, if needed

  • Able to lift over 100 pounds.

  • Demonstrated skills of heavy equipment operation a plus, but minimum as demonstrated for an over the road haul truck.

  • History of safe operation of vehicle as demonstrated on driving record.

  • Effectively communicate and interact with supervisors and peers.

  • Must be able to perform in compliance with all task training requirements.

  • Tolerate working outside in severe weather conditions as well as exposure to industrial high temperature, noise and dust.

  • Access all areas within a site which could include heights of 120 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and accessing tunnels.

  • Effectively communicate and interact with supervisors, managers, and peers.

  • Demonstrate the ability to operate a computer preferred.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: High School Diploma, GED Equivalent, or demonstrated skills or ability.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Previous labor experience in an industrial manufacturing environment is preferred.
