Job Description
The Infection Prevention Manager directs the infection prevention program for Baptist Hospital, Gulf Breeze Hospital, and Baptist Physician Enterprise. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory requirements of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), BHC's contracted accrediting organization, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Florida Department of Health (FDOH), and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as they relate to the infection prevention program. Additionally, the Manager collaborates with organizational leaders to drive and achieve desired outcomes related to the prevention of healthcare-associated infections.
Responsibilities
- Leads Baptist Health Care's Infection Prevention Committee and serves as Infection Prevention liaison to other committees of the organization.
- Surveillance/Epidemiology: Uses a systematic approach to monitor the effectiveness of infection prevention and control strategies. Ensures all communicable diseases are reported as required by Florida Administrative Code.
- Education: Acts as an educator and resource for healthcare providers, team members, patients and visitors regarding infection prevention and control and infectious disease processes. Oversees training programs relating to infection prevention and control for workforce members at-hire, annually, and as needed.
- Collaboration/Consultation: Provides expert knowledge, guidance, and routine risk assessments in collaboration and consultation with multidisciplinary teams, as appropriate. Provides resource data to department leaders, medical staff, patients, and/or family members regarding infection prevention issues.
- Program Management: Ensures execution of initiatives designed to achieve the Infection Prevention program's goals. Responsible for establishing infection prevention and control policies and procedures.
- Performance Improvement: Directs improvement initiatives focused on reducing Hospital Acquired Infections and enhancing patient safety.
- Leadership: Serves as a leader, mentor, and role model for team members throughout the organization. Directs activities of Infection Preventionists at Baptist Hospital, Gulf Breeze Hospital and Baptist Physician Enterprise. Provides support for Infection Prevention efforts at Jay Hospital.
- Technology: When possible, expands the use of technology for monitoring, analysis, and reporting of IP data. Serves as system administrator for infection surveillance software and the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN).
- Collaborates with Team Member Health in the development of strategies to address the risk of disease transmission to healthcare providers and team members.
- Responsible for the fiscal management of the Infection Prevention program; assures proper utilization of organization's financial resources.
- Is responsible for department's operational excellence; ensures department delivers quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and professional standards.
- Manage team members which include orientation, development and evaluation of personnel, and monitoring the provision of delivering quality services. Participates in the recruiting, interviewing and selecting of team members following policies, guidelines and applicable laws. Evaluates their performance relative to job goals and requirements. Provides coaching to staff, recommends in-service education programs, and ensures adherence to internal policies and standards.

- Effectively communicates departmental, organization, and industry information to staff.
Qualifications
Minimum Education
- Bachelor's Degree Health Care Required
- Master's Degree Nursing Preferred
Minimum Work Experience
- 3 years Experience in infection prevention Required
- 4-6 years Experience in Infection Prevention Preferred
Licenses and Certifications
- Registered Nurse Licensed State of Florida or applicable multi-state compact license Preferred
- Certification In Infection Control (CBIC) Required
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Knowledge of CDC and NHSN reporting requirements. (High proficiency)
- Familiar with process improvement and risk management principles. (Medium proficiency)
- Knowledge of regulatory standards regarding Infection Prevention and the Physical Environment. (High proficiency)
- Ability to lead teams to address infection prevention opportunities. (High proficiency)
