Job Description

About the Role
Are you ready to lead a global 24/7/365 Security Operations Center that protects a tech-forward university with cutting-edge technologies, enterprise-scale resources, and a high-performing team? This isn't your typical academic environment-we operate more like a fast-moving software company.

We're looking for a Senior Manager of Security Operations to lead and scale our global SOC team. You'll own incident response coordination, threat detection strategy, and people leadership in a high-stakes, mission-driven environment. If you're a strategic leader who thrives under pressure and loves working with modern tools and fast-moving teams, this could be the perfect role for you.

Why This Role Stands Out

  • Global scope: Lead SOC operations across three continents in a true enterprise setting
  • Modern tech stack: We use Devo (SIEM), CrowdStrike & Carbon Black (EDR), and are always evaluating new tools
  • Real support: Strong budget, executive buy-in, and freedom to innovate-no red tape
  • High-impact work: Help protect critical infrastructure and data at scale
  • Vibrant culture: Upbeat team, collaborative vibe, and plenty of room for personality

What You'll Do

  • Lead and develop a 14-person global SOC team (analysts + architect)
  • Own incident response, including situation rooms and SME coordination
  • Manage threat detection workflows aligned with frameworks like the cyber kill chain or MITRE ATT&CK
  • Continuously improve alert mapping, response processes, and tooling
  • Partner with stakeholders across the organization to reduce risk and improve security posture
  • Contribute to strategic planning and security roadmap evolution

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree and 10+ years in cybersecurity (Equivalent relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree (1 year of experience = 1 year of education))
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in people leadership, ideally managing SOC teams
  • Hands-on experience with Devo (or similar SIEM) and EDR tools like CrowdStrike and Carbon Black
  • Strong background in incident response and threat detection
  • Familiarity with cyber kill chain and MITRE ATT&CK
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills in high-pressure situations

Nice to Have

  • Security certifications (CISSP, CISM, etc.)
  • Experience in global, enterprise, or high-velocity environments (tech company SOC experience is a plus)
  • Follow-the-sun model experience or comfort leading globally distributed teams
