Position Summary:

The fixed asset accountant is responsible for recording cost of newly acquired fixed assets (both tangible and intangible), tracking existing fixed assets, recording deprecation, amortization, interest expense, accounting for the disposition of fixed assets and reconciling the general ledger. The fixed asset accounting position is also responsible for registration, tracking, and filing of all state and federal regulatory requirements and taxes.

Duties & Responsibilities:



  • Create and monitor a system of controls, procedures and forms for the recording of fixed assets.
  • Recommend, to management, any updates to accounting policies related to fixed assets.
  • Assign asset numbers to fixed assets.
  • Record fixed asset acquisitions and dispositions in the accounting system.
  • Track the compilation of project costs into fixed assets and close those projects and classify them in the appropriate category upon completion.
  • Reconcile the balance in the fixed asset subledger to the general ledger.
  • Conduct period physical counts of fixed assets.
  • Recommend to management whether fixed assets should be replaced or disposed of.
  • Conduct analysis of fixed assets, such as R&M exposure, as requested by management.
  • Support audit requests related to fixed assets.
  • Prepare tax returns, filings and any regulatory requirement related to fixed assets.
  • Maintain titles, registration and taxes for rolling stock.
  • Consider continuous improvement strategies in the accounting department to improve efficiencies and streamline processes
  • Other duties as assigned



Basic Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree required, preferable in Accounting or Finance
  • 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all general and advanced accounting procedures

  • Intermediate level knowledge of US GAAP
  • Experience with large market ERP systems and multiple entities
  • Strong analytical and accounting skills



Requirements:



  • Must be able to remain in stationary position in an office environment: 80%
  • Will frequently move about inside the office to access files, office machinery, etc.
  • Must be able to operate basic office machinery.
  • Must be able to communicate with team and management and be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Must be able to travel as needed.
