Primary Responsibilities

HDR's Bridge Engineer will: Serve as a project manager, technical leader, or a task leader for bridge engineering projects of varying sizes and complexity; perform structural and feasibility analysis required for advanced planning and type selection studies and prepare related reports and technical memorandums; conduct literature review on complex design scenarios using design codes; design complex bridge structures and structural components in highway bridge projects; perform seismic and wind analysis for complex bridge design and retrofit projects; prepare design calculation documents; prepare site studies, site designs, contract documentation and graphic presentation related to bridge structures; prepare Inspection and Maintenance Manuals for signature cable supported arch bridges or other bridge types; supervise, assign and review work performed by junior engineers and technical staff; assist with the development of scope of work and level of effort for projects and/or assignment within discipline; coordinate with subconsultants to keep projects on schedule and within budget and manage day-to-day communication (verbal and written) with the client; and implement quality control procedures and oversee use of project quality plans.

Required Qualifications

  • A Master's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or a closely related engineering field and 4 years of experience in bridge engineering or a Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or a closely related engineering field and 6 years of experience in bridge engineering.
  • Required experience may include professional, internship, or academic research experience and must include experience in: evaluation and design of bridge structures for dynamic forces including seismic, wind, and collision loads; preparation of design calculations; preparation of structural analysis reports; and using structural analysis software including SAP2000, CSiBridge, Larsa 4D, Xtract, FBMP, Lpile, Adina, MicroStation, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam.
  • Must hold Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or have passed Professional Engineer examination (from any US jurisdiction).
  • NOTE: All HDR positions in the US may be subject to background checks and/or pre-employment drug testing.

The expected compensation range for this position is $110,074 to $144,690.
