Job Summary
Directs the daily activities of the Vision Rehabilitation Center/Contact lens department and provides clinical and didactic instruction in Low Vision/Vision Rehabilitation/Contact lens for Eye Clinic (Ophthalmology) Residents. Develops policies and procedures and recommends clinical protocols and patient education materials. Supervises daily activities of vision rehabilitation technician/assistant.
Essential Functions
  • Directs all daily activities of the Vision Rehabilitation, including:
    * Patient care - comprehensive eye examinations, Low Vision and vision rehabilitation evaluations.
    * Design and ordering of low vision devices and specialty contact lenses
    * Completing Encounter Records for all visits
    * Inventory control of low vision devices
    * Supervising vision rehabilitation assistant
    * Patient education and instruction
    * Consultation reports to referring doctors and agencies
  • Directs all daily activities of the Contact lens clinic.
  • Provides clinic instruction for Beaumont Eye Clinic Ophthalmology Residents
    * assist Ophthalmology Residents in vision rehab, low vision and Contact lens.
    * provides appropriate educational materials and lectures for Residents
    * coordinates clinical education schedule with Eye Clinic Director
  • Recommends and develops clinical protocols and practice guidelines for the fitting, dispensing, and use of low vision devices.
  • Uses specific age and culture-related physical, intellectual, psychosocial, and developmental attributes in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
  • Provides weekly feedback to occupational therapy on ongoing visual/perceptual therapy patients.
  • Provides visual evaluations for vision rehabilitation and visual perceptual therapy candidates for the visual/perceptual therapy program - occupational therapy outpatient clinic.
  • Provides ongoing education to occupational therapists involved in visual perceptual therapy.
Qualifications
  • Required Doctorate Optometry
  • 1 year of relevant experience At least one year experience in fitting specialty contact lenses - keratoconus, post-keratoplasty, toric soft and RGP, and soft and rigid bifocal lenses. Required
  • 3 years of relevant experience Practice management experience (in low vision practice) 3 years of experience low vision service/vision rehabilitation. Required
  • Experience in vision therapy. Required
  • LIC-Optometric License - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire required
  • CRT-Low Vision Specialist - MOA Michigan Optometric Association Cert or in process of obtaining Upon Hire required
