Job Description

About The Role

Senior Fellows are top technical advisors and leaders within Amcor's global R&D community. They are recognized both internally as well as across the industry as thought leaders. Because of their history of IP generation, Senior Fellows must think independently yet act collectively to lead the development of new platforms, functional practices, and key strategic R&D initiatives that advance our business globally. Work will include applications and materials development, research, teaching/mentorship, and promoting Amcor's viewpoints within external organizations like trade associations and universities.

Key Job Accountabilities

  • Maintain a track record of recognized scientific expertise in a specific field(s)
  • Study/uncover next generation technologies and methodologies that form the bases of high value-added research programs
  • Transform market space and create value using innovative technology and manufacturing capabilities
  • Understand competitive intellectual property, designs, and technologies - influence company direction to attain a competitive advantage; create original, forward-looking IP
  • Develop technical solutions to new or highly complex problems that cannot be solved using existing or well-known methods
  • Understand the needs of colleagues to solve complex technical challenges in the organization worldwide
  • Partner with leadership to translate organizational vision into R&D initiatives and technological advances
  • Influence to improve and sustain core function capabilities
  • Understand and articulate the company's risk appetite; define risk tolerances for use in business projects
  • Evaluate technologies of potential merger and acquisition targets
  • Continuously work to harmonize cross-functional integration to enhance business capabilities
  • Mentor R&D personnel; build technical and business capabilities
  • Represent the company externally via active participation in trade associations, publications, public forums, and university research
  • Lead/influence others; support worldwide business improvements with thoughtful analyses
  • Actively engage in the Global Fellows Council; lead on a rotating basis

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree required (typically in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science, Chemistry, or other related area)
  • PhD or Graduate degree
  • Industry recognition
  • Demonstrated consulting with senior leadership
  • Global thinker with demonstrated ability to collaborate across regions and cultures
  • Ability to present highly technical material in an easy-to-understand way
  • Multiple examples of created IP, demonstrating implementation of platform solutions with strong business partnerships
  • Ability to influence or make key technical decisions in non-standard technical areas/tasks
  • Ability to assimilate and understand unfamiliar concepts and interpret them for leadership
  • Demonstrated high value from customers, suppliers, industry, and academia
  • Ability to influence with partnerships across functions
  • Demonstrated conceptual thinking, analysis, and resolution implementation where data sets and perspectives are conflicting
