The University of Georgia Facilities Management Division is the largest of seven (7) divisions reporting to the Vice President for Finance and Administration. The exceptional staff of over 900 personnel within the division manage, operate and maintain campus landscapes, buildings and infrastructure to promote the long-term sustainability of the University.

Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, formal training programs, or on-the-job training. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Position Summary
Skilled manual and technical work at near journeyman level with basic skill in HVAC and general knowledge of other trades. This individual will be responsible for inspecting, maintenance, and the ability to perform minor repairs needed on HVAC packaged equipment and air-cooled systems on
UGA's main campus. Work is generally assigned by the shop foreman and will mostly work under the general supervision of other experienced mechanics. Work to include performing maintenance of these systems such as cleaning coils, changing out basic parts, repairs needed to window units, and assisting other mechanics on bigger jobs. At times and within capabilities, this position will work independently to perform lower-level duties and may on occasion work beyond normal duty hours resulting from emergency or high priority work. The position provides the opportunity to learn and develop the knowledge and skills needed to be considered for future HVAC mechanic
vacancies.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to use standard hand tools and equipment common to the mechanical and structural trades.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards of: mechanical and electrical building equipment; tools and equipment associated with maintenance activities
  • Ability to relate well with others (customers, co-workers, supervisors, etc...)
  • Ability to learn and use basic computer skills.
  • Ability to perform routine troubleshooting of MEP systems.
  • Ability to perform administrative functions related to building systems maintenance (complete forms, record filing, etc..)


Physical Demands

  • Stand, walk, stoop, squat, climb stairs, work from standard and/or extended ladders and lift up to 75 lbs. during a normal 8 hours work shift.
  • Work under adverse weather conditions (heat, rain cold).
  • Driving to perform job related duties.
