Job Description Summary:

The Bioengineering Division is seeking a motivated laboratory Technician to support the Bio Lab Day to day operations. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, observant, and dedicated. This person assists skilled workers in the performance of skilled and semi-skilled laboratory work. The technician C works under close supervision and performs cleaning and maintenance of laboratory and equipment requiring skilled or semi-skilled knowledge. With adequate training and close supervision, will perform work of an essentially repetitive nature for the production of deliverable hardware. The work involves manual skills and the operation of simple automated or semi-automated equipment. The technician C will carefully document their own work consistent with work unit policy in handwritten form or using common computer-based software, under close supervision.

Job Description:

Duties/Responsibilities
* Performs cleaning and maintenance of laboratory equipment with close supervision.
* Operates simple equipment in the production of hardware using manual skills under close supervision.
* Documents their work consistent with work unit policy with close supervision.
* Performs focused training to enable progression into higher skilled positions at the discretion of the supervisor.
* Other temporary assignments at the discretion of the supervisor.

Skills/Abilities
* Able to communicate written and verbally.
* Able to use Microsoft office applications.
* Able to perform manual labor and operate automated and semi-automated equipment.

Education
High School diploma or equivalent is required.

Experience
Requires at least six months of applicable experience.

Additional Job Description:

  • Inspect & Removal and Disposal of Bio Waste Boxes, Sharps Containers, BSC Waste Traps, and Drain waste from Equipment throughout the lab
  • Inspection and removal of all regular trash bins throughout the lab
  • Pick up packages from the Shipping department and deliver to designated areas and or people. In addition to scheduled pick up, shipping calls at least 3 times a day for special delivery of blood or dry ice items.
  • Change out Gas cylinders, Liquid Nitrogen Dewars and maintain Inventory of all gasses
  • Cleaning Glassware, organizing clean quartz and maintain inventory of all glassware
  • Autoclaving Quartz ware, RO Water and other materials as needed
  • Daily cleanup of the Lab, Gowning areas including all Lab sinks. Inspect floors, Bench tops in each room and clean as needed
  • Weekly testing of the Eye wash stations throughout the lab; Assist Facilities with Shower testing
  • Fill Incubator Pans with Reverse Osmosis (RO) Water weekly, inspect for bacterial growth and disinfect/autoclave as needed.
  • Maintain all water baths throughout the lab, clean & disinfect as needed
  • calibrate CO2 Sensors on all incubators in the lab including inspection of all units
  • Assist with Equipment Installs & Preventative Maintenance, put tables and carts together as needed
  • Familiarity with freezers, incubators, refrigerators, BSC (Bio Safety Cabinet) units' operation, functionality, uses and ability to be able to diagnose and suggest solutions to problems is a plus
  • Decontamination of Incubators and BSC units as needed
  • Pickup and Delivery of All Due Calibrated Items
  • Stocking of all Rooms in bio lab Including paper towel holders, Nitrile Gloves, safety Glasses, Glass cleaners & defoggers etc. Making sure that all Expiration dates are up to date.
  • Stocking of the Main Stock room including checking Inventory filling out forms for items we are getting low on and Managing Expiration Dates.
  • Daily Inspection of Deionized (DI) Water System and Keep Water tank full of Salt
  • Annual Chemical Inventory of all Refrigerators, Freezers, chemical Cabinets, Solvent cabinets, and all Lab Benches

Additional:

  • Hours are preferably 10:00am to 6:30pm
  • Required training: Lab Standard Safety Training, BBP training, Bio Lab specific training, regulated medical (bio) waste shipping, DOT Hazardous Material Training for Generators, Crane and Hoist Training
  • Must be able to move Gas Cylinders and LN2 Dewars in excess of 200lbs
  • At the discretion of the supervisor, performs focused training to enable progression into higher skilled positions. Other temporary assignments at the discretion of the supervisor.
