DESCRIPTION

Under direction, the Hospital Lab Tech II is responsible for all pre-and post-analytical activities. This includes both direct supervision of staff and problem solving related to clinical laboratory operations involving specimen acquisition and processing 24 hours/day, 365 days/year. Review, clarify, and organize in and out-patient lab test results, establish specimen collection priorities, proper specimen(s) collection, use LIS to "receive" specimens, accession specimens, process specimens, and distribute specimens for testing to in-house clinical laboratories and/or to reference laboratories as appropriate. The Hospital Lab Tech II independently checks all requisitions to ensure completeness of order and follows up with CLS staff if problems are discovered. The Hospital Lab Tech II provides customer service support by correctly and quickly responding to telephone calls for information related to pre-analytical activities, analytical methodologies, and post analytical methodologies, and post analytical results reporting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduation from college with a major in an applicable natural science; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT).

  • One (1) year of related lab experience, preferably in a large complex healthcare organization.

  • Knowledge of infection control and isolation procedures and in patient comfort/safety; must be familiar with scientific terminology.

  • Demonstrated high accuracy in work performance. Demonstrated attention to detail.

  • Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access).

  • Strong communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in both venipuncture and skin puncture.
  • Previous leadership experience in a related laboratory position.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work all shifts, weekends, overtime, and at various locations as necessary in accordance with operational needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $64,999 - $80,868 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $31.13 - $38.73

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
