Senior Mineralogist (Kennecott Utah Copper LLC, South Jordan, UT):

Work closely with process engineers to develop and supervise geo-metallurgical test work programs. Perform regular Quality assurance / Quality control on data collected. Develop and maintain appropriate documentation. Identify and address potential ore quality issues during the monthly and annual planning processes. Perform special projects as required. Prepare and run Mineralogical samples on the Mineral Liberation Analysis or X-ray diffraction. Analyze results of Mineralogical sample analysis, write reports, and communicate results of these analyses. Develop and supervise data collection methodologies for non-routine samples. Identify and drive improvements for analytical processes to improve the mineralogy program at Rio Tinto Kennecott Copper (RTKC). Conduct root-cause-analyses to assist with troubleshooting. Develop and supervise monitoring processes to evaluate the accuracy of predictive models, data analysis and problem solving. Participate in Method Development, validations, and certification activities. Utilize analytical methods, standard operating procedures, and laboratory data systems to ensure data integrity, compliance, and good laboratory practices. Provide training on the importance of understanding process mineralogy. Use best-practice safety measures and promote a safety culture through company programs.

Full time employment, Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Geology, Metallurgical Engineering, Earth Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or a related field and 5 years of related work experience.

Employer will accept a 3 or 4 year degree.

Must have 3 years of experience in:

  • Managing, analyzing, and modelling of value stream metallurgical performance;
  • Working in cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams and delivering measurable outcomes;
  • Conducting rigorous statistical analysis on plant performance;
  • Lean 5's concepts;
  • Any combination of Mine geology, Mine planning, and/or Mill operations and performance; and
  • Statistical analysis software, including Minitab, Microsoft Excel, and/or JMP.

Must have 1 year of experience in Porphyry Cu and Cu skarn deposits.

Travel: International travel required up to 5%; Domestic travel required up to 5% for internal development.

Any suitable combination of education, training, or experience is acceptable.
