Exciting Opportunity in Our Switchboard Operations!

Southern Cancer Center is hiring a Telephone Operator for our Phone Room at Providence Hospital.

Scope:

Join our team as an essential part of our communication hub, where you will be responsible for a comprehensive range of telephone switchboard tasks. Under direct supervision, your role will involve triaging calls, relaying messages, and providing vital clerical support. You will act as a key liaison between patients and medical staff, upholding the highest standards of the US Oncology Compliance Program, including our Code of Ethics and Business Standards.


Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Efficient Call Management: Answer all incoming calls with courtesy and efficiency, connecting callers to the correct extension promptly.
  • Message Relay: Accurately take and relay messages in a timely manner, ensuring clear communication.
  • Emergency Response: Respond swiftly to emergency and urgent patient calls, directing them immediately to clinical staff when necessary.
  • Operator Functions: Skillfully manage operator functions such as call triaging, connecting and transferring calls, setting up conference calls, instructing users on telephone procedures, and reporting any telephone or equipment malfunctions.
  • Positive Caller Experience: Ensure every caller enjoys a pleasant and helpful phone interaction.
  • Switchboard Operations: Oversee the opening and closing of the switchboard and manage the in-house paging system.
  • Clerical Support: Perform assigned clerical duties to maintain the department's workflow efficiently.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • This is an entry-level position with 0-3 years of experience, preferably within a medical setting.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods, with occasional stooping and stretching for files and supplies.
  • Occasionally lift files or paper weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient for operating a keyboard, calculator, telephone, copier, and other office equipment.
  • Vision must be correctable to 20/20, and hearing must be within the normal range for telephone communications.

Work Environment:

  • The role is based in an office environment with high levels of interaction with patients and the public.
