Major/Essential Functions


  • Monitor and evaluate Progress Toward Degree (PTD) and NCAA eligibility requirements for student-athletes in the sport of Track & Field.
  • Serve as the academic advisor for the sport of Track & Field, providing academic guidance and collaborating with coaching staff to deliver a comprehensive academic support program.
  • Act as the primary liaison between athletic academic services and various campus departments, maintaining regular and proactive communication with faculty and staff to support student-athletes' academic success, address academic concerns, coordinate resources, and ensure compliance with institutional and NCAA academic policies.
  • Collaborate with the Transfer Evaluation Office and academic departments to assess transfer credits for prospective and incoming student-athletes, ensuring a smooth evaluation and transition process.
  • Work with athletic compliance and certification offices while ensuring proper procedures and processes are being met.
  • Collaborate with the Learning Assistance Program (LAP) staff to assign subject/general tutoring, learning specialist sessions, and study hall requirements for student-athletes.
  • Assist in the recruiting visit process for prospective student-athletes in the sport of Track & Field. Meet with & guide prospective student-athletes through the pre-TTU admission process.
  • Advise current student-athletes in academic progress, degree selection, appropriate class selection, academic policies & campus resources; Monitor academic progress and proactively create intervention plans.
  • Assist with the practice clearance process for Track & Field student-athletes.
  • Support administrative efforts, including gathering and reporting data for academic awards and scholarships.
  • Provide consistent and frequent communication with the Associate Athletic Director for Academic Excellence, with coaches, and support staff about the progress of assigned student-athletes. Prepare necessary grade reports and updates for coaches and support staff.
  • Maintain consistent communication with the Associate Athletic Director for Academic Excellence, the coaching staff, and support staff regarding the academic progress of Track & Field student-athletes. Prepare and distribute grade reports and academic updates.
  • Serve as a contributing member of committees within the Marsha Sharp Center for Student-Athletes.
  • Ensure compliance with all NCAA, Big 12, Texas Tech University, federal, and state regulations and policies.
  • Other duties assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field plus three (3) years related experience; OR a combination of related education and/or experience to equal seven (7) years.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Sport Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in academic advising, student-athlete support services, or a related area within intercollegiate athletics.
  • Familiarity with APR, GSR, and other NCAA academic metrics.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with coaches, faculty, compliance staff, and campus partners to promote student success.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by the athletics calendar.
