The Opportunity

The Claims Specialist for Property claims will be responsible to direct all aspects of file handling for property claims. The Claims Specialist will manage the claim investigation, analyze and determine coverage, evaluate the overall claim, and pursue subrogation as warranted in property insurance claims. This role also gets exposure to handling high profile, national catastrophic property events. The Claims Specialist will manage the litigation process, strategically partner with vendors, participate in mediations, and drive ultimate claim outcomes.

Responsibilities

Core accountabilities include:

  • Manage all aspects of first party property insurance claims, including general property, energy, and engineering lines of business; including by preparing strategies for settlement negotiations, mediations, arbitrations and/or trials.
  • Build strong relationships with, anticipate challenges of and provide creative solutions for insureds consistent with the client centric focus of the MR Group, Business Units and Corporate Centers.
  • Professionally represent Corporate Claims and the company in meetings with external clients, other Munich Re Group entities, and industry groups, and do so in a manner that favorably reflects upon Munich Re and/or distinguishes Munich Re from its competitors.
  • Develop and maintain a systematic process for clearly and effectively communicating insights and feedback regarding specific and general coverage, loss, line of business, pricing, and/or risk characteristics to underwriters, actuaries and any other related claim personnel.
  • Be a self-starter with a focus on client centricity, continuous improvement and excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Manage various special projects developed through own initiative and/or as determined by Manager and deliver timely results with well supported recommendations

Qualifications

  • 5+ years' experience in handling and managing large Corporate Property insurance losses
  • Understanding of first party insurance coverage interpretation, loss reserving, loss report analysis, litigation management and client relationship administration
  • College degree required and advanced educational degrees or industry designations and/or certifications preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication with exceptional overall human interaction skills
  • Client centric focus along with a self-motivated ability to exercise superb and decisive independent judgment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft software (Word, Outlook, Excel) and other computer applications including basic data analysis
  • Willingness to travel in comprehensive service of clients' and the Company's needs

The Company is open to considering candidates in numerous locations, including Chicago. The salary range posted below applies to the Company's Chicago location.

The base salary range anticipated for this position is $99,700 - $146,200 plus opportunity for company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay. In addition, the company makes available a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, 401k match, retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).

The salary estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for candidates hired in this position in Chicago. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. Most candidates will start in the bottom half of the range.
