Responsibilities
Summary: The Assistant Director, Transportation is responsible for the operational management of GEO Transportation, Inc. (GTI) for USMS GTI Operations, including contract negotiations, maintenance and operation of the transportation vehicles, guidelines and cost-related activities. It ensures that all transportation activities within the USMS Operations are accomplished on a timely basis and in compliance with federal and state laws, and Company policies and procedures. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- The Assistant Director, Transportation provides assistance to the Director of GTI Operations on all GTI operations and budgets providing services within established time frames and in compliance with contractual requirements.
- Ensures that GTI complies with the Department of Transportation (DOT) and other federal, state and local laws. In addition, ensures that all GTI activities comply with the Company's policies and procedures.
- The Assistant Director, Transportation coordinates operational roles with any GEO joint venture partner.
- Develops and monitors the budget, expenditures, and related financial activities for the USMS GTI operations.
- The Assistant Director, Transportation monitors the use of computerized routing programs to design and implement routes and schedules.
- Reviews vehicle preventative maintenance programs and activities to ensure that vehicles are maintained in a safe and effective operating condition.
- The Assistant Director, Transportation recommends policies, procedures and actions related to transportation services.
- Directs the development and implementation of safety standards and procedures.
- The Assistant Director, Transportation works with assigned facilities to recommend new hires, promotions, terminations, and transfers for the purpose of maintaining staffing needs and productivity of the work force.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Associate's degree in a related field and a minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Law Enforcement Officer with arrest authority; or a minimum of three (3) years of prisoner handling and detention experience as a Corrections, Detention, or Military Police Officer. Two (2) years of work experience must include the supervision of employees OR High School diploma or equivalent certification and four (4) years of experience as a Law Enforcement Officer with arrest authority; or (4) years of prisoner handling and detention experience as a Corrections, Detention, or Military Police Officer. Two (2) years of work experience must include the supervision of employees.
- Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
- Must be a United States citizen.
- Speak, read, and write the English language.
- Have an honorable or general discharge, if a Veteran.
- A current United States driver's license with no preventable accidents, suspensions for driving convictions, Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) or Driving Under the Influence (DUI) or more than two (2) moving violations on any type of vehicle for the past three (3) years.
- Possess a current Commercial Driver's License (CDL) from the state(s) where they shall be expected to operate a bus (if applicable).
- Demonstrated leadership experience.
- Must possess a State Firearms License.
- Must possess a State Security Guard License. Must have completed an approved training program resulting in a certification of satisfactory completion in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
- Certification in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
- Extensive knowledge of the practices, policies, regulations (government and environmental), procedures and materials involved in fleet and personnel management.
- Must have strong leadership ability, sound judgment, and effective administrative ability. Possesses the abilities to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely. Clearly demonstrates the ability to guide, direct and coordinate the efforts of others.
- Ability to set standards and procedures to establish satisfactory levels of performance, quality and productivity.
- Willingness to travel extensively.
- Effective personnel interaction, communication skills, and problem-solving techniques.
- Sound and effective leadership skills.
- Ability to train staff.
- Ability to write reports, memoranda, policies, procedures and documentation.
