Product Developers oversee content quality by conceptualizing, developing, shaping and editing intellectual property for digital and print delivery while managing and coordinating the efforts of authors, contributors/SMEs, and production & digital platform teams.

The Senior Product Developer develops course materials for products and platforms such as Connect to help higher education students around the globe achieve their goals. Senior Product Developers rely on research and development principles to solve market problems, while tailoring learning experience guidelines to specific portfolio needs.

Product developers possess mastery of multiple authoring environments for the creation of long-form reading experiences, adaptive content, assessments, and immersive digital assets. They are crucial players in every step of the content journey: Product Research & Planning, Product Launch, Product Development, Product Production, Product Live, and Product Maintenance.

This is a remote position open to applicants authorized to work for any employer within the United States. This position is open to 5%-10% travel throughout the year.

What you will be doing:

  • Develop well-constructed learning experiences that solve critical market problems, are of the highest caliber, and meet accuracy and accessibility standards.
  • Contextualize and tailor learning experience design guidelines and recommendations for specific portfolio needs.
  • Partner with our content accessibility team and other members, such as authoring enablement, production and Learning Experience Designer, to help create documentation and determine best practices for product development.
  • Provide training on authoring accessible content as a part of revision and new content development process to product development team members, authors, freelance contributors, subject matter experts and other suppliers.
  • Serve as one of the product development team's experts on accessibility updates in terms of advancements in technology as well as meeting current and emerging McGraw Hill requirements.
  • Lead strategic development on multiple, complex projects within aggressive timeframes that require the ability to continually prioritize changing project tasks/deliverables and meet deadlines.
  • Ensure products are brought to market in scope, on time and on budget per the product plan.
  • Participate in market development and research across assigned projects to achieve profound understanding of our customers and to discover, validate, and ensure our products address urgent and pervasive market problems.
  • Monitor trends, identify opportunities, and explore innovative solutions to teaching and learning problems in specific discipline areas.
  • Work collaboratively across functional areas to identify solutions and problem solve issues that may arise during the development, production, and maintenance of a product.
  • Partner closely with Portfolio Managers and team to determine appropriate scope of projects and to help execute the overall digital strategy.
  • Collaborate with product development, production and content accessibility teams to implement accessibility requirements and solutions.
  • Develop a deep knowledge of and demonstrate the ability to train others on proprietary learning tool platforms, content engines and authoring environments within the McGraw Hill ecosystem.
  • Demonstrate active leadership in the content development realm, including leading specific operational initiatives, coaching others on new product models or processes, and innovating a tool or approach.
  • Take a leadership role in coaching and mentoring others both within the development functional role and across other organizational roles such as production, marketing, and sales.

You should apply if you have:

  • Bachelor's Degree required; related advanced coursework or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Three plus years' experience in product development and project management.
  • Experience and proficiency in managing digital product development.
  • Familiar with web-based systems and tools, database management tools, authoring tools and platform functionality to help drive digital product development.
  • Proven experience in product development with a focus on content accessibility, inclusive design, and universal design.
  • Strong knowledge of the latest accessibility standards, including Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 level AA.
  • Strong program management skills, including budget and scheduling.
  • Knowledge of universal design frameworks and their application in product development.
  • Confident, objective, analytical, and inquisitive abilities to lead and mentor product development team.
  • Display practical business sense, fiscal skills, and accountability.
  • Demonstrated success with managing complex digital product lines with major revenue responsibility.

The pay range for this position is between $52,100 - $80,000 annually, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
