Associate Ecologist - Rocky Mtn Region

Westervelt Ecological Services (WES) creates mitigation and
conservation banks and provides environmental mitigation and habitat planning
services to landowners, businesses, government agencies, and land trusts. Our
established industry leaders excel in the field of wetland and endangered
species mitigation services, to create a nationwide habitat mitigation company.

We are looking for an experienced Associate Ecologist - Rocky Mtn Region to join our team in our Golden, Colorado office.

The purpose of the Associate Ecologist
position is to provide technical support in the fields of ecology, habitat
restoration, land stewardship, and rangeland management. The Associate Ecologist will be responsible
for collecting, organizing, analyzing and reporting data in support of
Westervelt Ecological Services' land stewardship operations and will assist
in the operations and management of all WES properties within the Rocky
Mountain Region.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
-Coordinate land management activities such as grazing, hunting, farming, environmental compliance, and water management on WES properties.

-Conduct land stewardship and site maintenance activities such as mowing, fencing, water management, tree maintenance, and weed control.

-Operate and maintain. land management equipment such as, UTV's, tractors, mowers, etc.

-Conduct ecological studies in support of WES projects.

-Coordinate site access with outside parties including easement holders, lessees, and utilities.

-Provide substantive and detailed ecological input for the preparation of mitigation and conservation documents.

-Provide input to ensure that ecological considerations are factored into restoration.

-Review potential project sites with other team members to provide insight on biological and land management opportunities or constraints.

-Assist, where appropriate, in the development of biological monitoring or research projects.

-Supervise outside consultants preparing specialized biological resource related documentation.

-Direct outside contractors performing land stewardship activities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Ecology, Range Science, Natural Resource Management, Botany, Soil Science, Agricultural Science or related field
  • 1 to 2 years relevant experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to adapt quickly to change
  • Detail oriented
  • Direct practical field based ecological experience including species specific field surveys, wet land delineation, land survey and habitat mapping preferred
  • Experience with California biological resources and state and federal environmental regulations preferred
  • Experience using GPS
  • Previous experience implementing restoration projects in Colorado
  • Previous experience including ecological surveys or characterization, wildlife surveys, or botanical surveys
  • Familiarity with native and non-native botanical surveys
  • Ability to work independently in the field setting, often in remote locations
  • Experience operating equipment for land management (E.g. all terrain vehicles, GPS equipment, pumps)
  • Colorado driver's license with clean driving record required

The base salary range for this position is $79,900
- $119,900. Actual base salary is based on the experience
and qualifications of the selected candidate.
