Description
Acara Solutions is looking for a highly skilled Electronic Technician in the Palo Alto area to build, rework and maintain repairs on PCBAs and install instrumentation and harnessing for the Power Electronics Lab.
This is a short term 2-3 month contract with possibility of extension/conversion and pay is 35-45/hr. This role is fully onsite M-F in Palo Alto.
The position will include assisting with board component setup and debugging, collaborate closely with the Electrical Engineering team to define and build equipment including design, sourcing, assembly, and creation with a primary focus on PCBA rework, mechanical fabrication, electrical wiring (high and low voltage controls/comms) and custom instrumentation setup (e.g. voltage, current, temperature, flow rate). A typical day you will be communicating with the engineering team, performing the rework requested, providing feedback on the work, and updating documentation.
What You'll Do
  • Soldering iron/tweezers, hot air, preheaters/ hot plate, hand tools and some power tools; populate, test and repair prototype PCBA- through hole, SMD down to 0402 and 0201 size using microscope.
  • Read/comprehend electronic schematics or work from written / verbal instructions using little or no formally released documentation
  • Familiar with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, DMMs, signal generators, power supplies and other standard EE lab equipment
  • Troubleshoot various systems using documentation, instrumentation, and input from multiple Engineering teams.
  • Fabricate cable harnesses- familiar with various sleeving, wire, cable and connector types, crimp tools and techniques.
  • Support Engineers in lab activities including clear understanding of electrical equipment for safe troubleshooting, operation, and maintenance.
  • Maintain organized rework tools and supplies at their workstation.
  • Move PCBA components and boards to and from the rework station.
Job Requirements
Required Skills / Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of experience in an Engineering development environment
Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
  • IPC certification highly desired
  • Great mechanical fabrication & electrical prototyping skills (soldering, wire harness fab, harness diagram)
  • Strong troubleshooting skills at board component level
  • Safety oriented - Willing and eager to adhere to all company safety policies.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills, positive attitude, eagerness to learn, ability to change direction quickly.
  • Experience in Python, Linux based operating systems, LabVIEW, Modbus communication, CAN communication, basic networking is a plus.
