The Rutgers Democracy Lab (
RDL) was established through a transformative gift received in November 2024. Its mission is to serve as a vibrant hub for civic engagement and a collaborative workshop for studying, analyzing, and addressing the challenges and opportunities of contemporary democracy.
RDL embodies a bold commitment to equipping students with the tools and knowledge to engage with, strengthen, and sustain democracy for future generations. The Lab also seeks to examine emerging threats, such as the influence of social media, and explore their profound impact on democratic processes. Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Program Coordinator II to support the Center for Youth Political Participation (
CYPP)
, for the Rutgers Democracy Lab (
RDL) within the Eagleton Institute of Politics.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Assists the CYPP Sr. Program Coordinator with the coordination, implementation, and expansion of the Center's signature programs: RU Voting program and RU Ready.
- Supports the Center's events and administrative tasks.
- Organizing and implementing in-person voter registration and engagement practices and events on the Rutgers University-New Brunswick campus.
- Recruits new middle and high school partners to participate in RU Ready programming, a civic education initiative providing high school and middle school students with the motivation and the civic, political, and expressive tools they need to address public problems in their community.
- Assists the RDL staff in managing the logistics and administrative tasks relating to the Rutgers Democracy Lab's core events and workshops, and its research agenda.
- Works collaboratively with RDL team to build an audience and market RDL programs and events to students, the Rutgers community, and the public through online newsletters, website promotional, and social media posts.
- Contributes to program planning, logistics, and implementation.
- Assists Rutgers Democracy Lab with recruitment and selection of student volunteers and participants in RDL programming. Recruits a diverse group of student applicants from across Rutgers University and colleges/universities across the country, using existing and new networks.
- Identifying and tracking key benchmarks for CYPP engagement, including voter registration, virtual analytics, and in person engagement. Helps with compiling key benchmarks for Rutgers Democracy Lab student engagement in programming and events, whether on social media or in-person.
- Participates in Institute-wide and/or cross-team projects.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Must have at least a BA in political science, communications, or a related field, and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of program coordination, organization, facilitation, and social media promotion/outreach.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Good communication and interpersonal skills and computer literacy.
- Must be very organized, efficient, detail oriented and self-driven.
- Experience with social media outreach required.
- Must be comfortable working for an organization that is political yet non-partisan and straddles the worlds of politics and academia.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Must have program coordination and event logistics experience in a nonprofit space, as well experience supervising undergraduate students.

- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, Planner, etc.), email programs such as Civi CRM, website editing (Wordpress, Drupal, etc), social media tools and pages, Canva, and Rutgers management platforms.

Physical Demands and Work Environment |
- Eagleton offices are located within a historic building with no elevator. The duties of this position regularly involve navigating stairs numerous times a day.

Special Conditions |
- Must be available to work evenings occasionally during the academic year and some weekends.
- Please note that this position is paid from a five-year gift, and continuation is contingent upon available funds.
