Primary Purpose of this Job The Sr Engineer I, Operations supports daily operations of the rolling mill by interacting with the employees, observing and collecting data along with feedback from the employees on the floor to be relied on to provide recommendations to improve the performance of the mill. Essential Functions (other duties may be assigned)
- Design roll passes and roll layouts using CAD/CAM system. Prepare roll layouts and produce clear, accurate work plans and detailed drawings for rolls/rings. Evaluate the impact of Roll configuration changes.
- Preform a variety of drafting, clerical, and other duties primarily pertaining to roll design for shape product and the maintenance of files covering drawings and roll/ring inventory. Store, retrieve and update files and drawings on CAD/CAM systems.
- Work from customer inquiries to prepare accurate, fully dimensioned detail drawings of bar cross sections. Calculate minimum, nominal, and maximum bar areas and weights using CAD/CAM system.
- As necessary, make drawings of various mill parts, guide plates, patterns, and guides. Maintain file and records covering various designs, drawings, and card inventory of all rolls/rings on hand.
- As necessary, assist department leaders in all duties pertaining to roll design and roll shop management.
- Provide internal/external technical support for Hot Rolling processes including reviewing and resolving deviations, non-conformances, and customer complaints.
- Support Operations Leadership with data collection, reporting and training
- Work closely with Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, Operations and other support functions to meet developmental needs and business plan requirements with internal and external customers.
- Analyze mill data and apply problem solving techniques to reduce downtime, improve yields and improve product quality.
- Recommend and develop strategic mill improvement projects.
- Support product/process Continuous Improvement programs. Utilize statistical data analysis, process modeling, and sub/full - scale trials to support initiatives.
- Communicate results to management, colleagues, and customers in the form of written reports and oral presentations.
Required Qualifications:
- BS in mechanical or industrial engineering or related discipline.
- Minimum 3-year process or product engineering experience related to Ni/Fe/Co- base super alloys, titanium and/or specialty/stainless steels
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hot rolling mill experience preferred
- Skilled in CAD / CAM
Certification and Licensing Requirements Lean manufacturing experience is preferred
