Overview
The Simulation Assistant assists with the implementation of the full spectrum of simulation methodologies utilized in the Sentara Center for Healthcare Simulation and Immersive Learning (SCHSIL, or The Center) with an emphasis on device-based simulation. This person is responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing computerized manikins, task trainers, and related multimedia peripherals; analyzing and resolving user and interface problems; assisting in the training and education of non-technical users; and advising the Director of Simulation Technology and other Center Directors concerning procurement of hardware, software, and audio/visual equipment involving device-based simulation methodologies.
Responsibilities
Provide the full spectrum of support to Center educational, training, and research device-based simulation activities. This support includes:
- Supporting faculty and staff in designing, assembling, and delivering actual, virtual, and/or web-based training/learning encounters.
- Participation in the setup, operation, troubleshooting, breakdown, cleaning, and maintenance of healthcare simulation activities, equipment/technologies, and associated audio-visual equipment.
- Supporting Center research activities, to include device testing.
- Ensure timely transitions between simulation events.
- Organization and maintenance of healthcare simulation equipment and supply inventory.
- Utilize the below listed systems, as well as e-mail, Slack, Teams, Zoom, telephone, voicemail, and SMS/text, to accomplish required scheduling and communication activities. (Training will be provided.)
- Elevate Healthcare Learning Space, a web-based learning management system; and,
- Simulation Information Management System (SIMS) program, a unique web-based program for simulation based medical education and training.
- Microsoft Office suite of tools.
- Develop and maintain a technical and operational understanding of the various simulation devices and technologies at the Center or at typical offsite locations.
- Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the resource footprint/needs of the various training and education activities at the Center.
- Communicate promptly and professionally, both orally and in writing; in particular, communicate event staffing status in a timely and accurate fashion.
- Support general Center functions when requested.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Employee should have related experience in technology, AV/media services, healthcare, or customer service CHSE Certification is preferred Advanced simulator programming skills Healthcare background Candidate should have working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
