Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Project Assistant for the Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation within the School of Engineering.
The Rutgers University Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation (
CAIT) tackles some of the country's most pressing infrastructure challenges, especially those that are endemic in high-volume multimodal corridors like the Northeast. The bulk of our efforts fall within several broad areas: assessing and monitoring the health of bridges, roads, and pipelines; creating and implementing revolutionary technologies, materials, and tools; formulating strategies to prolong the service life of infrastructure; and training the current and future workforce. Since 1998,
CAIT has been a University Transportation Center (
UTC)-a group of academic research institutions sanctioned and supported by the U.S. Department of Transportation. It was named the Region 2
UTC in 2018, and since 2023 has been a member of the National Center for Infrastructure Transformation.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Provides critical program coordination assistance, research and technical support, economic analysis capability, and project support skills to the Center.
- Engages in the execution and coordination of research projects and provide technical knowledge in the areas of economics and economic impact assessment, planning, business case development, and data visualization.
- Supports day-to-day operations of the Center and act as a representative during special events, meetings, and other interactions with CAIT clients.
- Supports CAIT's research portfolio under the guidance of the Center's Program Development Specialist.
- Generates economic analyses to quantify project impacts.
- Works closely with Principal Investigators on collaborative research.
- Supports CAIT staff in managing key clients and programs.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's degree in the field of Economics or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience.

Certifications/Licenses |

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Excellent data analytics and data visualization skills.
- Familiarity with project coordination software.
- Good communication skills and computer literacy.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally and effectively with external clients, Rutgers University staff, and Principal Investigators in a research environment.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and Teams is preferred.
- Ability to excel with written and oral communications, including researching, writing, editing, proofreading, and presenting.
