Under general supervision, performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance duties related to the upkeep of parks, playgrounds, recreation facilities, irrigation systems, and landscaped areas. This role ensures that park amenities are safe, clean, operational, and visually appealing for the public. Work may involve overseeing a small crew of workers in park maintenance.

Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills

Playgrounds
- Inspects and maintains playground equipment for safety hazards, wear, and compliance with safety standards.
- Repairs or replaces damaged components such as swings, slides, surfacing, and structures.
- Conducts routine inspections and logs findings per safety protocols.
Facilities Maintenance
- Performs minor carpentry, painting, and plumbing work in restrooms, shelters and other park buildings.
- Cleans restrooms, pavilions, and community-use areas on a scheduled basis.
- Maintains lighting, doors, signage, and other facility elements.
Irrigation
- Installs, maintains, and repairs irrigation systems including valves, timers, heads, and piping.
- Monitors for water efficiency and ensures proper turf and landscape coverage.
- Performs seasonal start-up and winterization.
Goundskeeping
- Mows, edges, aerates, sprays, and fertilizes turf areas using manual and power equipment.
- Removes litter and debris from Park areas.
- Maintains athletic fields, trails, parking lots, and park amenities.

Minimum qualifications & Requirements
-
High school diploma or equivalent; Minimum 1 year of relevant park, landscape or facility maintenance experiencer; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. |
Must have a valid South Carolina driver's license. Playground Safety Inspector certification preferred or obtainable within 12 months. |
