Purpose
The Warehouse Specialist supports field and shop operations by efficiently sourcing, receiving, organizing, and distributing parts, tools, and supplies critical to equipment maintenance and construction activities. This role serves as a key liaison between internal teams and external vendors, ensuring the timely delivery and availability of materials. By managing inventory, maintaining a clean and safe work environment, and facilitating accurate documentation, the Warehouse Specialist helps keep projects running smoothly and equipment operating efficiently in support of heavy civil pipeline and utility construction operations.

Focus & Scope
Essential duties and responsibilities, i.e. those which are basic, necessary, and an integral part of the job, are indicated below:

Technical / Specialty Area
  1. Communicates with internal customers (project staff, foremen and welders) regarding the parts, tools and supplies needed to meet immediate repair demands
  2. Clarifies and communicates the process, availability and timeline for obtaining requested parts
  3. Communicates with vendors and salesmen to identify, locate and obtain parts, tools and supplies
  4. Uses computer, phone and in-person contacts with vendors and salesmen
  5. Researches electronic and hard copy parts manuals and catalogs to locate and purchase specified items
  6. Tracks down used parts availability from nation-wide sources
  7. Converts weights and sizes to/ from metric, as needed
  8. Receives in-coming shipments, checks quantities & signs bills of lading
  9. Uses forklift, rigging, handcarts and manually unloads and stocks items
  10. Conducts visual inspection to check quality and condition of both new and used items
  11. Stocks parts, tools and supplies on shelves, racks or pallets in the warehouse or yard
  12. Manages inventory by organizing items and available space, according to changing needs; approximately 50% of the role
  13. Uses push cart, hand truck or hand-carries requested items for distribution to mechanics and welders in shop
  14. Uses forklift to pick orders and load trucks for field mechanics
  15. Generates parts requisitions, purchase orders, warranty claims, vendor credit memos and parts identifications
  16. Uses an electric scribe to identify parts and tools
  17. Labels items not safe for use and files completed documents
  18. Sweeps office and warehouse floors, dusts storage shelves and washes office windows to maintains work area in a clean and safe condition
  19. Picks up trash, packaging and debris in storage yard and warehouse
  20. Drives company pick-up truck for off-site errands to pick up or deliver items
  21. May drive to designated work site to look at equipment for parts identification, for ordering
  22. Operates various sizes of forklifts to load and unload boxes of supplies, large items, palletized items and steel
  23. Uses forklift to stock and organize storage yard and warehouse
  24. Attends Safety meetings, as scheduled
  25. Meets with foreman for pre-task planning and regarding the status of parts availability
  26. Attends training meetings, as needed

Job Qualifications & Requirements

Education:
  • High School diploma or GED, required; Additional college courses or technical training, helpful.
Experience& Industry Expertise:
  • Minimum 5-years' experience in construction or comparable work experience in heavy equipment parts.

Specific Job Requirements:
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug, alcohol, and background investigation
  • Valid California Driver's License, Class C
  • Company Forklift Certification
  • Current on all company required safety and regulatory training
  • Ability to preserve confidential and proprietary information and successfully avoid conflicts-of-interest
  • Comprehensive understanding of the end-to-end strategic sourcing process
  • Excellent understanding of the construction industry, particularly in heavy construction utilities

Equipment Used, Physical Demands and Work Environment

Equipment Used:
  • Personal computer, telephone, pagers, company vehicle, personal protective equipment (i.e. safety glasses, hearing protection)
Physical Demands & Work Environment: The physical demands and work environment characteristics are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Physical: Sitting for long periods of time working at the computer or driving to job sites. Job site visits require walking on uneven ground, climbing, bending, stooping, crawling in confined or enclosed spaces. Some lifting and carrying of materials and equipment up to 50 lbs. Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. May work long hours during peak seasons.
  • Work Environment: Exposed to the conditions of job sites which can include loud noise, dust, fumes, and extreme weather conditions prevalent at the time. May work various shifts or hours, including early mornings, dusk or evenings. Parts office, storage yard and warehouse and repair shop with adequate temperatures and lighting, low levels of noise.

HOURLY BASE SALARY RANGE:
$34.81 - $48.74
The range displayed reflects the range the company reasonable expects to pay for the position. The actual base salary is subject to variation due to the role, level, geographic location, relevant education, training, or experience, among other factors.
