GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Radiology RN provides quality nursing care to patients in Radiology through the use of assessment, communication, teaching, leadership and management skills. Ensures patient privacy and dignity. May function in any of the following areas within the radiology department: interventional radiology, general diagnostic, computerized tomography, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, mammography, MRI and medical radiography.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

*Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

*Initiates assessment and reassessment based on the patient's presenting problems/needs in accordance with Bryan Medical Center's procedures; monitors and records patient's condition before, during and after procedure.

*Administers appropriate medications during patient's stay in radiology with proper documentation.

*Executes therapeutic and/or supportive interventions; assists Radiologist in performing interventional radiology procedures.

*Properly utilizes monitors, infusion pumps and other non-ionizing radiologic equipment during patient procedures; ensures departmental/facility safety policies and procedures are followed.

*Evaluates the patient's response to and effectiveness of nursing interventions; identifies life-threatening arrhythmias and takes appropriate action.

*Maintains a sterile field.

*Monitors patients during MRI procedures involving sedation, pacemakers or other needs. Maintains MRI safety.

*Reinforces instructions to family and patient of post-procedure precautions.

*Keeps blood and body fluids in check in accordance to OSHA and Medical Center guidelines.

*Assists radiologists and technologists in procedures involving instruments, wire, catheter insertion, biopsy needles and the insertion of drainage units.

*Incorporates cultural considerations into the plan/delivery of care.

*Accesses and administers drugs and biologicals that are pertinent to essential job functions in accordance with Medical Center procedures.

*Serves as a liaison between ordering/referring physician, scheduling center, specialty clinic, and IR physicians.

*Obtains pertinent prior imaging studies for patients for IR physician review before clinic visits and/or procedures.

*Ensures follow-up imaging and/or clinic visits are scheduled.

*Communicates with physicians and staff to maintain exam schedules and facilitate patient flow.

*Accompanies physician to specialty clinic when seeing patients.

*Builds trusting relationships with patients, families and caregivers through effective communication and listening skills.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act. Minimum one (1) year bedside patient care experience required. Membership with the Infusion Nurses Society (INS) preferred.

Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.

ACLS certification required. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Pediatric, Emergency, Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS) certification preferred.
