DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The student will have the chance to work closely with assigned mechanics, gaining essential skills that are vital for success in various automotive tasks. To maximize this learning opportunity, it is important for the student to actively participate by listening carefully and asking pertinent questions to the mechanic. This engagement not only enhances the student's understanding but also contributes to a productive educational environment for both the student and the organization. The responsibilities the student will undertake are diverse and include performing general repairs and preventative maintenance on cars and light trucks, executing oil and tire changes, inspecting and replacing brake systems, assessing and repairing suspensions, diagnosing and fixing air conditioning issues, and meticulously documenting all repairs. Additionally, the student will learn to interpret and complete work orders, utilize computer diagnostic tools, and maintain tools and equipment by following proper handling, usage, and storage protocols. Adherence to all departmental policies and procedures is also a critical aspect of this training, ensuring that the student develops a comprehensive understanding of the automotive service industry.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • If you are selected for this position, you will work directly with your workplace supervisor to determine a work schedule that coordinates with your school schedule.
  • Senior enrolled in High School 2025-2026 - The internship could begin 7/1/2025 and go through the 2025-2026 school year.
  • Junior enrolled in High School 2025-2026 - The internship could begin 7/1/2025 and go through the 2025-2026 school year, summer 2026, and 2026-2027 school year.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Internship Requirements:

  • You must be at least 16 years of age.
  • You must be a junior or senior enrolled in high school during the 2025 - 2026 school year.

Additional Requirements:
  • Letter of Recommendation: You must attach a Letter of Recommendation from your school's co-op coordinator, career or guidance counselor, or similar designated school professional indicating you meet your school's requirements and are being recommended for this opportunity.
  • Work Permit: Minors will be required to submit their Work Permit upon acceptance of this position.
  • By participating in this program, the student and school agree to use the Commonwealth's Training Plan, Statement of Responsibilities, and Student Performance Evaluation. Forms will be provided to the student upon acceptance of this position.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
