THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is seeking a Transportation Construction Inspector Supervisor to be responsible for the inspection of construction operations and materials within District 3-0: Bradford, Columbia, Lycoming, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder, Sullivan, Tioga, and Union counties. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will assign work to and review the work of inspection personnel assigned to project operations and inspect projects to ensure that work is performed in accordance with the plans, specifications, and special provisions of each contract. This includes reviewing the documentation of work units done and materials used to ensure accuracy and conformance to Department policies, as well as the responsibility for ensuring contractors and the department meet Labor Contract Compliance regulations and commitments for use of Minority Contractors.

Our team will rely on you to ensure that inspections are made at least twice daily of the condition of work zone traffic control devices to verify conformance with the Traffic Control Plan and Publication 213, inspections are documented, the contractor is directed to correct any deficiencies, and assignments are completed by established due dates. You will also be expected to ensure that field personnel are meeting the requirements of labor compliance through wage checks, bulletin board reviews, and subcontractors approved prior to work and that all reviews are documented. Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Vendor-controlled position, work hours may vary.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, after successfully completing the six-month probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Montoursville.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $51,971.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Transportation Construction Inspector (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of construction inspection experience and an associate's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Condition of Employment:

  • This position requires possession of a valid non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
