Our Communications team includes PR/Media Relations, Internal Communications, Events, Community & Social, and other strategic comms functions. This team's ethos is to support OpenAI's mission and goals by clearly and authentically explaining our technology, values, and approach to safely building powerful AI.

About the Role

OpenAI's Pro subscribers are using our tools to solve some of the world's hardest problems, yet no one is currently dedicated to building relationships, sharing learnings, and strengthening retention for this high-value cohort.

We're hiring a senior community leader to own the end-to-end strategy, execution, and measurement of a world-class program that:

• Sharpens our understanding of Pro personas and use-cases

• Creates vibrant, two-way communication channels (newsletter, blog/website, Discord/Slack "watering hole")

• Contributes to retention, satisfaction, and subscription growth-first in the U.S., then in key international markets such as Japan and Korea

You'll partner closely with Product Growth, Marketing, Research, and DevRel to ensure that community insights flow back to technical teams and we collaborate to build community value that creates a differentiator for the Pro plan.

In this role, you will:

• Insights & Personas:

  • Lead quantitative analyses and qualitative interviews to define the top 10 Pro personas alongside our data scientists

  • Socialize those insights with collaborators and use them to inform our strategy

• Community Infrastructure:

  • Stand up and operationalize a global, invite-only online space (Discord, Slack, or proprietary) organized by expertise verticals to encourage peer learning.

• Editorial & Programming:

  • Craft the vision for our Pro subscriber editorial. Own the calendar and budget.

  • Ship editorial (e.g. Pro newsletter and co-build a public blog / website) featuring new model capabilities, use cases and more that map to your strategy and insights (notes from leadership, tips videos, AMAs with researchers).

  • Explore and craft vision for additional subscriber programming, for example events.

  • Engage select cohorts Pro subscriber for early access testing of new features and models, then collaborate with PMMs to tell those stories.

• Growth & Health Metrics:

  • Define and own community KPIs. Collaborate closely with Growth PM and PMM to monitor health of the business.

  • Collaborate with data scientists to create dashboards and better understand the comunity

• Cross-Functional Leadership:

  • Act as DRI for all Pro community touch-points, aligning Product, Marketing, DevRel, Support, and International teams on go-to-market and expansion plans.

• International Expansion:

  • Localize playbooks for priority markets (Japan, Korea) and pilot region-specific channels and content, leveraging local partners and translators.

• 0 to 1 capacity, from strategy to scrappy launch to expansion

• Data fluency

• Talent with content-proven editorial point of view. Confidence owning newsletters, blogs, webinars, and social channels end-to-end.

• Deep empathy for technical and non-technical power users; bonus for familiarity with AI tooling, developer ecosystems, or research workflows.

• Cross-functional influence at all org levels

• International experience. Capacity to identify and operationally localize programs for Japan, Korea, and other non-US markets.
