DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Purchasing Agent, you will perform technical purchasing work for the southwest region of the DOC. In this position, you will provide assistance and instruction to facility staff in determining the appropriate methods for purchasing supplies, materials, equipment, and services. You can expect to utilize Commonwealth purchasing systems and purchasing cards to make payments to vendors. You will also develop bid specifications and proposals for items not available from statewide contracts. Additionally, you will evaluate and resolve routine purchasing problems through contact with various offices, staff, and vendors. Interested in learning more? - Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 1 day per week. For promotional applicants, you must successfully complete a 6-month probationary period (you will be reporting to the office 5 days a week during your probationary period). In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to SCI Pine Grove in Indiana.
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 60 or 65.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $45,907.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Three years of experience in purchasing work involving contact with vendors in the procurement of a variety of supplies, materials, equipment, or services; or
- Three years of experience in requisitioning, receiving, storing, distributing, and maintaining inventory of goods; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training. Post-high school education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for purchasing or stores experience to a maximum of two years.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirement:
- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
