DESCRIPTION OF WORK
-
In this Forester position, you will be responsible for all aspects of forest management on state game lands in your assigned region. This includes the development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of programs designed to manage, protect, enhance, and conserve the forest resources. Work involves preparing forest resource inventory maps and required documents, collecting and analyzing habitat and wildlife data, and implementing specific wildlife habitat considerations. Communication skills are key as you will also have the opportunity to serve as a lead worker for Forest Technicians and Interns, coordinate with planning teams to ensure management plan documents are accurate and complete, and answer inquiries from the public or direct them to helpful sources of information.
Our team will rely on you to make recommendations for silvicultural treatments such as timber harvest, herbicide spray areas, prescribed fire projects, and deer deterrent fence projects based on stand analysis; assign appropriate cover types to stands for mapping; and management plan development. - Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- This position is eligible for Alternate Work Schedules (AWS).
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years of technical forestry experience, and an associate's degree in forest technology, forestry, forest management, forest ecosystem management, urban forestry, forest science, agroforestry, or a related forestry degree; or
- A bachelor's degree in forest technology, forestry, forest management, forest ecosystem management, urban forestry, forest science, agroforestry, or a related forestry degree; or
- A master's degree in forest technology, forestry, forest management, forest ecosystem management, urban forestry, forest science, agroforestry, or a related forestry degree.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
Other Requirements:
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
- This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
- Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
